OK - I installed it. A few things I noticed:

1) I didn't experience any noticeable speed increase. In fact it felt a bit sluggish - so I took out the battery and rebooted again after the install. Speed seems about where it was before. Scrolling through pictures on the memory card still seems a bit slow - I didn't get the speed boost someone else mentioned in this thread.

2) New Calculator. It does have a new skin. Looks nice.

3) Addition of a Rogers theme - it's butt ugly. Why Rogers? I mean seriously.

4) I can now tell my inbox whether or not to separate SMS/MMS from email - nice!

5) I could just be my eyes but it seems the fonts are slightly altered. It could have just been I had some weird custom font setting - but I am pretty sure I was using whatever was default. They are not that different - maybe some extra whitespace? I could be out to lunch on this one.

Everything backed up and restored beautifully - all BIS and BES settings remained intact.

my battery life is shorter now than it was with 0.73 but I assumed it was from a new program I installed called SimulSays (voicemail replacement program)

Both battery life and memory use are about the same as TIM.

The speed "boost" is really the return to normal speeds prior to the TIM OS. The TIM OS was pretty slow overall.

Since I'm rather new to the Pearl and BlackBerries in general ... how bad is the TIM and new Rogers battery life? Considerably shorter? I'm satisfied with the battery life on .71/.73 from Cingular since I'm still on the regular battery.

when restored you will have everything like before and the axl file will add vendor themes

You should use the file in the original post (Jibi did it so you know it's right). I don't think the alx file is carrier specific.. that's why you have to get rid of the vendor file (step 3).

Just did the upgrade, and added jibi's vendor.alx file. Worked great, and I am noticing all of the above. A quick battery pull took care of the sluggishness. The fonts are different. They seem narrower that before. I actually like the Rogers Zen theme, as well as the TIM theme.

As for impact on battery life, I'll know more in a day or two...

To update I know you have to remove the vendor file on the computer, but is that it...? I keep seeing this other file people are referring to. I'm going to update and I still want my current T-Mobile theme (list). Anything special I have to do, or will it be automatic? Thanks!

You're not supposed to put the blackberry.alx file in where the vendor file was. It goes in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.1.94_P2.3.0.77
There should already be a blackberry.alx file there and you are replacing it.

The alx file is just to unlock the other carrier themes that come with the software. If you don't want to use any other theme then you don't really need the modified alx file. It will keep the other themes off your Pearl and save you space.

it pretty much feels like the TIM release except they worked out most of the lil kinks, overall the speed has picked up a bit especially when scrolling through music/pictures, u can have a song playing and hit the camera and the song will keep playing which stopped happening in the TIM/Telestra rls at least for me, battery life seems good so far a bit better then the TIM from what i've noticed but i'll find out more after work today when i go crazy with it, other then that it was definately worth the upgrade specially from the TIM/Telestra mostly because of the lil bug fixes, but if you're lookin for huge changes or anything new you won't find it unless i've looked over it but i'll find out in the next few days :P

Thumbs up

I upgraded to Rogers from TIM and so far I haven't had any of the problems I had with TIM.

With TIM, I was experiencing problems with the keys 'sticking' when dialing certain combinations, speaker/mic/calling issues, and Yahoo!Go stopped working. No problems so far this time.

The OS is still really snappy, desktop view on browser, etc. Navigating pictures on the media card is still a little sluggish... but I can deal with that.
