Now that Steve Jobs is gone, and he seemed to be the one who unilaterally said NO to Flash on iPhones/iPads, do you think that stance will change with Tim Cook at the Apple helm?

Likely Adobe will morp Flash into something that will show up on Apple equipment. Flashbulb?

I think Flash is on the way out. Won't disappear tomorrow, but the growing trend seems to be HTML5. Steve kept it away long enough that HTML5 got a foothold and will be the future standard. Tim Cook won't sully the memory of His Steveness by reversing that policy.

Having used several Android devices I can say that flash on them SUCKS! 1st thing I always did was turn it off in browser (think it was disable plugins)....

The past style of Flash won't be supported on Apple products and I'm guessing most mobile platforms will drop any support they have. Several months ago I saw an interesting posting that seemed to sum up the problems with Flash. The basics were that it is power hungry, one of the leading sources of viruses/infections on computers and not optimized for a touch interface (requires the precision of a mouse).

I believe Adobe is trying to reduce the power and virus issue by releasing a new developer package this last month that will have the application run on the websites server instead of the mobile device. Essentially, the device will just play back the content thus requiring less processor overhead and reducing the power requirement. I would also think this reduces the chance of a virus/infection.

Whether a flash application is optimized for a touch interface, is up to the developer. The argument for flash is that so many sites have it. But many of those sites are not using an interface optimized for touch. So, even if you could run the flash program, you're like a bull in a china shop trying to interact with the interface.

Agreed, Flash is a dying technology.

Flash is a resource hog and is un-workable in mobile platform. Jobs saw that and now so is everyone else. HTML 5 is where mobile video is going. Only the idiots at Adobe are clinging to it.

And, of course, consumers who want their CURRENT websites to appear properly.
But they don't seem to matter.

Seems to run fine on Android devices as well as the PlayBook.

Please tell me how it doesn't. I have been using Android devices for about 18 months now and never had any issues with Flash on it. I would love to hear your opinion of why it doesn't work well on Android.

Well it isn't on Windows Phone 7 and that's his current fascination.

To the contrary - I use several different devices and would like to see Flash available on all of them. I don't flip flop (need references to your Apple Rules posts) when the newest thing comes along.

Actually so do I. I have a WP7, and iPad, my old iPhone 4 which I used for wifi browsing around the house. I have both a Windows PC and 2 Macs. I don't miss Flash at all, and as more and more non Flash phones and tablets come to market, websites will phase out Flash completely.

Reality gets in the way of fantasy all the time.
Web sites are VERY slow to adopt new technologies.
