Default Exchange Memory Leak?

Please Login to Remove!

Has anyone actually implemented the fix for the Exchange Memory Leak referenced here?

We're having sporadic issues with devices not syncing properly as well as sporadic calendar issues. In the application log on the BES, we see a lot of 'ERROR_RESOURCE_ALLOC' and RIM said it's caused by the memory leak.

We have BES 4.0.2 for Exchange, MSDE2000, with 270 users.

We have it in place now for ~2 weeks - the memory use on the BES of the blackberryagent.exe have been reduced significantly.

When you implemented it, did you have to make changes on both your Exchange server AND the BES? We only have Exchange System Manager installed on the BES, not full blown Exchange (which is how it's supposed to be, right??). RIM would only send us their knowledgebase article and said we would have to call Microsoft to obtain the hotfix. When we called Microsoft, they said we had to update Exchange on the BES...but it's not there. So we're a little baffled... Any insight would be appreciated.

The updated file (EMSMDB32.DLL, if memory serves) is installed on the Exchange server and also with ESM.

When you install an Exchange hotfix or SP, you need to install it everywhere you have Exchange or ESM. So install Exchange 2003 SP2 (which includes a later version of EMSMDB32.DLL) or the hotfix by itself on both machines and you're golden.

So Exchange SP2 has the updated file....but RIM has told me that they don't support SP2. Has that changed in the last couple of weeks?

If so, then I guess I jumped the gun. No problems so far; hope it will stay that way. Exchange SP2 was released 2 months ago...RIM needs to devote the resources to stay more current. SP's are important.

Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 Messaging and Collaboration environment is fully supported with BlackBerry Enterprise Server 4.0 Service Pack 3 however Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 is not yet supported when installed on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Also note it is not supported to install BlackBerry Enterprise Server on the same server as your Exchange Server.

Thanks for the clarification. Kind of interesting, since best practices are, and always have been, to run all Exchange servers and ESM machines at the same SP. Likewise every other server technology I can think of, for that matter. But I guess that's the user's problem, not RIM's, isn't it.

We don't have BES on the Exchange Server.

Guess these are both issues Windows Mobile/Exchange sites won't have to worry about.
