Blackberry Desktop Manager will not open in Vista, it opens for a split second and disapears. i have loaded and reloaded Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.3 several times to no avail.

Right click the Desktop Manager Icon and go to the compatibility tab. Check the Compatibility Mode box and choose XP.

I'm having problems getting BB Desktop Manager to work under Vista also. When installing I encountered several errors saying DLL files couldn't be registered. When I connect my BB via the USB cable, Vista recognizes it in the system tray but when I try to open Desktop Manager it just flashes open for a second and closes immediately. I have tried reinstalling the software several times with the same result.

I did manage to install it. Granted, i did have to run it as admin. I took it right off my computer. Was very buggy. Im gonna wait to reinstall this.

i have just installed 2.3 and 2.2 and neither works on my vista laptop, they both flash up for second and close, did anyone manage to resolve this?

Before installation chose option "Install as administrator" and option "Install for all users".
It worked for me on Vista Ultimate, but after I have had
the problem vith Roxio Media menager (stop working every time).For me useless on Vista-uninstalled program.

this does seem to be a weird Vista related bug, I uninstalled it then cleared out the registry entries and re-ran with the run as administrator (despite being a local and domain admin) and it worked.
Note of caution for those of you who have Roxio and antivirus I noticed the install got stuck on the media manager install, I had to disable Kaspersky AV while this bit went through.

if by that you mean the desktop manager appearing and then instantly disappearing then yes, this is exactly the problem I had.

I had to uninstall the desktop manager fully then re-install but with the 'install as administrator' option (despite being a local even domain admin) and also I did the 'install for all users' as appose to 'only for me'

You also mentioned that you cleared out some registry entries. Were they just the RIM specific ones or were there others. I have a feeling that something in my (all our) registries is hosed, or maybe just a particular dll is hosed/not registered. I even disabled every single thing from starting up (except for my Windows installer service) trying to get this program to work... None of the RIM "solutions" that they had listed worked at all. :(

I am about to try to load Vista on a VM to see if it is an issue with my install - or even try a complete reinstall of Vista here...

yes I did clear out any research in motion reg keys, I looked for folders left behind but couldnt see anything left behind file wise.

I also installed Desktop 4.3 and when I tried to run the app, a window appeared for one second then disappeared. I followed the advice here - I uninstalled the app, then ran it as administrator, selected "anyone who uses this computer" rather than "only me." Fortunately this fixed the problem. still not working. even set up a second admin acct. nada. I reset my entire permissions profile for every single registry setting and file - it hosed vista worse then before (forcing a restore).. finally just loaded it onto my xp machine...

After reading all these issues.. and experiencing it myself. Just now wondering if I made a sound decision in switching to Blackberry. The website itself is not very helpful at all and hard to find any bloody specific information.

It's very disappointing from RIM, with previous versions of desktop manager I've never had any issues until this new version on Vista.

Have you tried the "run as administrator" though as that did resolve it for me (also if you have Roxio installed already it seems to take an age to install but it does get there)
Even though you may be a local or even domain admin (I am) you still need to do that run as administrator.
