Default From 9000 to 9700 - Few Questions

Please Login to Remove!

I have a 9000. I have had it over a year and LOVE it. However, the trackball issue is getting to me. It sticks all the time. I am looking at switching to the 9700 with the trackpad. I have read through posts comparing the 2, but I have a few questions I didn't seem to see asked. I have a U these on my 9000, and I had a hard time finding it. How can I be sure and add that to my 9700 (if I get one)? In other words is there a way to have everything saved on my phone now and sort of 'transfer' it to a new phone? I am sure that seems basic to some of you, but I am not too savy at that kind of stuff. I have lots of apps and settings I would have to reset. So how does that work? If I bought an app, do I have to buy it again? I am comfortable with email and all that, I know I will have to set that part up again, but curious about my apps and theme.

If anyone else upgraded from the 9000, what else do you like about it? I just can't take this trackball anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks in advance for any help!

Just install the blackberry desktop manager and look for the backup restore icon.

Plug in the 9000

Click backup/restore, follow the onscreen directions pretty much. That'll make a backup.

Plug in the new 9700, do the same but choose restore and point it at the backup file it made.

Most of your apps should work fine, but the paid ones will need a step or 2. If its like berrybuzz, its tied to pin, and depending where the apps were purchased some have a pin change feature or you have to email them with the old pin and new pin and they'll change it on thier end (they change what pin your license is set to)

Actually, this process as described won't do third-party apps at all.

The user should use the Switch Device Wizard in Desktop Manager to get the applications moved over to the new handheld.

You would need to get a new Theme, because the screen size for 9000 and 9700 is different. Unless you are using the stock themes that come with the BB.

I recently upgraded from the 8900 to the 9700 and the Device Switch Wizard makes the transition go very smoothly. Just make sure the Box for 3rd party apps is checked. As one posted stated, any apps tied to a specific PIN (like Pocketday) will not work. Just contact the vendor and they will provide a new registration key. You will also have to pair any Bluetooth devices as well.

Thanks so mcuh everyone! I got my 9700 and am LOVING IT!!!! I am just having trouble finding a U Theme. I have a couple that I have downloaded and they show in my applications, but not my themes. I have changed all the permissions to "allow" and still no luck.... anyone know any secrets on how to get themes to show under themes? I remember having this same problem with my 9000, which was why I was scared to switch over. I like the 12 icon u theme. but the 15 would be even better.... I can't seem to get either to work on my 9700. Off to search some more... thanks again! It is so nice to be able to ask questions here and not feel like an idiot! LOL
