Question Curve 8320 on open Wi-Fi requiring login?

Please Login to Remove!

Is there a means now with the release of the Curve to use open (unsecured) access points that require a login? By login, I mean when the HTML browser is open the access point redirects the browser to a login page. Examples include Wayport / at&t Wi-Fi, hotel rooms, and universities.

Is all data traffic sent through a T-Mobile proxy server by default? If so, can this be changed in the 8320?

On another note, can I load Opera Mini 4 on to this puppy?

P.S. New BB user, Treo 650 -> Curve 8320

opera mini does work over WiFi...

now to get on an open WiFi that has a JavaScript re-direct to an acceptance policy here is the how-to...

1: Turn of your EDGE/GSM Radio
2: Fully Close your browser if running
3: Make sure the WiFi network is found and you are connected.
4: With patience (and this can take a bit almost 5 min on the few occasions i did this) reopen the browser and try loading any page.
5: with luck you got redirected to the Java window and are working on WiFi
*if it does not work the first time then fully close browser again, and then reopen and repeat.
6: Turn on your EDGE/GSM radio

Why all the work?

If the 8320 sees any resistance on either of the two data services you have available (EDGE or WiFi) it redirects all traffic to the more dependable connection even if slower. Looking through the settings you can only set WiFi preferred NOT only, as to why you have to turn off the EDGE/GSM radio.

Hope that helps.

I have a Blackberry Curve 8320 as well and my university's WiFi requires login. So far the BB WiFi browser has worked flawlessly. Once the WiFi connection is established, a window asking for a user name and password should pop up when you try to connect to any website. And you can have the option to save that user name, but not the password.

Maybe, Ace & dreamerwc can both compare Browser Config settings with yours. Do you have Javascript enabled for the browser? Also if you're connected to the WiFi AP ... check your connection status .. ensure you're getting not just an IP but also a default gateway; without this you not going to any site no matter what.

Now, if browser settings are the same, trying going to another site to see if you're getting redirected. ALso check your service books ... do you have 2 listings for "WiFi" ?? If not I THINK you need them so you may have to resend service books from the BIS site to your HH or HRT again with your Data Radio on.

PS. Telling us this does not work for your 8820 is not giving us enough info to help ya; especially since Amiga gave us more info which may be different from yours.

my phone is currently using GSM network, and only one wifi connection. The wifi connection works normally whenever i use BB browser, however it does not work with operamini.

Here is what i deal with opera.
- Install (first time): go to operamini.com with BB browser, and make OTA installation -> complete

- Run operamini, there are two question during installing progress:
+ The application operamini has attempted to access a low-level network connection. Would you like to allow this? -> chose Yes.
+ The applicaion operamini has attempt to access the network. Would you like to allow this? -> chose Yes.

- Then, it gives me the error message:
Failed to connect to the Internet.
Go to operamini.com/help with your desktop browser or contact your service provider for internet settings.

:(
