yes, i have tried leaving the user name and password blank... but when you say 'make sure its set to use device default on tcp' do you mean the option in ramble that says use TCP? because i have that set, but it seems like your saying there is an option in the phone (other than in ramble) to make it use TCP. thanks

1: delete all of your service books except for the webclient.

2: perform a master radio reset in the security section of options.

3: take the battery out for 3 minutes and then put it back in. once the device turns on, wait a minute or two and your device should download all of the service books available from your provider.

i think the only thing you can do is the wipe from the security option... but i just did all that, and still dont have those 2 service books ("Desktop[CICAL]" and "Desktop[CMIME]"). this is really frustrating, what else could be wrong? is there any way to wipe the device completely, meaning OS and all, so i can reinstall everything? thats the only other option i can think of... i have the same EXACT phone sitting next to me that will work, and mine wont...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7290/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

"Desktop" service books are usually indicative of a BES. That is why it works. Your aunt is hooked to a corporate BES and hers is going through MDS. In order for yours to work, you will need to set up the TCP settings on your device. I'm on my berry at the moment or I would post a link for you. Search the forums for tcp settings.

yes, i know how to set up TCP, and have... and my aunts phone's ramble settings were set to make it use the phones TCP...

as a trouble shooting strategy, i put my aunts sim card in my phone, to make sure it is not my phones hardware or software, and ramble worked. so, there must be something wrong with my account. what should i ask tmobile? the only thing that was different when i put her sim card in was the top menu item was "enterprise activation" what is that?

Enterprise Activation is for hooking a berry wirelessly to a BES. I would compare your two bills. I don't know what it looks like on TMo, but on Cingular, there are a few account addons you have to have in order for it to work properly without BES MDS.

That is not what I meant. It is different on Cingular (my carrier) as they don't natively support TCP yet. I would contact support as you have verified it is not your device, it is your cell account.

Check options, service books. Sounds like you don't have the TMo IPPP service book. If you were on a BES with MDS you would have the one from that. You will need to first try repushing service books from the BIS (blackberry webclient) website. If this doesn't give you what you need, I would call TMo support. Maybe a TMO customer can post what their IPPP service book is called so you can compare.

They do, but it's somewhat difficult to get it enabled sometimes. Some people are using the "proxy" (old AT&T carrover) username and others are using the "wap@cingulargprs.com" username, and occasionally some people have to call in to get the lineitem added to their bill before TCP works on the Cingular BlackBerry. Other times, certain Cingular reps are clueless, so you have to hangup and callback.

For instructions on how to configure Cingular to use TCP/IP, see BlackBerry Internet Configuration FAQ .... (A section of my BlackBerry FAQ)

Mark, as always, you are very helpful, but I got BES, man...I'm a happy camper. Thanks though...I was just trying to offer a comparison for him since he was TMo and I no longer have a TMoBerry. I am sure other Cingular folks without BES will find it useful.
