No one knows when a new OS is coming out, and don't call me Shirley.

D'oh, I already made that joke today, I should have been on my guard... I'm just disappointed because 250 didn't work very well for me, and I do enjoy a good upgrade...

The same question: Better battery life from .231? It's needed to upgrade to .378

Nope, wasn't the issue. Problem was that DM 5.0 was checking the internet for legit version compatible with my phone everytime I connected it. I went around this by disabling my wireless before connecting my phone, x.250 came up and the reinstall/upgrade was performed without a hitch.

Took the plunge and upgraded. I like it so far. The best improvement: wi-fi connection. Prior OS was notoriously fussy and buggy. The verdict is still out on battery performance since I just upgraded last night. Stay tuned...

It's for the Blackberry 8900, no matter where you are or what carrier you use! It supports many languages.

I found the battery life on .250 way worse than .231. Downgraded and all good again...

Default Why I am being pushed by BB8900 to downgrade to previous version

Package Version: 4.6.1.378
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.6.1.250
  • Software Platform: 4.2.0.113
  • File name: 8900M_PBr4.6.1_rel378_PL4.2.0.113_A4.6.1.250_TIM_I taly.exe
  • File size: 123.34
Download the OS file here:

Instructions to install on ANY 8900 from ANY CARRIER.

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

thanks, Caribe95[/I]
Dear Sir; I successfully upgraded my 8900 to this suggested lastest upgrade few days back my device is in perfect shape no complaints or issues. However; when ever I connect to Desptop 5, its pushing me to downgrade to more prefferred OS..Please advise why it is so and what action if any I should take thank you for your feedback ( located in Dubai)

The rumor is that OS 5.0 is going to be out sometime this fall. So if that is the case why would RIM want to waste time on OS 4.6 when the new OS is almost ready for launch on the 8900?

Default Spell Checker Missing?

The upgrade went flawlessly and the OS works great... BUT, I now seem to be missing the native spell checker, it's just not there. Any insights? Is there a certain file I should try to re-load into the device?

Thanks!

I was running the beta version of this for several months. It worked okay, except for resets when scrolling in the browser when zoomed. It wouldn't reset every time, but it happened often enough to be a nuisance.

Today I got the "JVM error 102". I was unable to do anything with the device. Battery pull didn't help; JL_Cmder couldn't do anything. I called T-Mobile BB support and they couldn't fix it either; so I was handed off to RIM. They walked me through downgrading to .231, T-mo's latest official release. So that's where I am now. I think I'll keep it a while and see how it goes.

I have noticed one thing: With .250 I had a weird issue, described here:http://www.blackberryforums.com/rim-...ml#post1443305.

Now that I've downgraded to .231, I notice that this behavior persists. That is, after a reset, Live Search is running, and in order to stop it I have to go in through the Application Switcher and close it down. Going in through the home screen icon only starts another instance of it. And Mobipocket still can't be closed at all. And now Google Maps loads on startup too! Can anybody explain which programs load on startup and why?

Update: So much for "wait and see" with .231. My battery was down to 45% by noon today, with no special extra usage. I downloaded the TIM release of .250 and installed it. It's a bit different from the beta version that I had before, notably in the amount of free memory available. Odd.
