This worked perfectly for me, installed in minutes on my unmodified T-Mobile 8900.

Only thing strange is that I never removed vendor.xml -- for any of the last upgrades, to 152 beta, 152 official, or to this - and I would have thought that the vendor issue would have come up. Having done these installs without removing vendor.xml I'm wondering what's up? No complaints - just curious...

You know I forgot to remove the vendor.xml file for this upgrade and have not noticed any drawbacks (yet?)

Trying to play a YouTube file and it's telling me I have Javascript turned off which is not true. I'm using the Internet browser as opposed to the BB browser.

Odd enough, but perhaps the Austrian carrier A1 not populate the vendor.xml file...? so it doesn't matter.

Possible...but that wouldn't explain why the beta and production 152 versions also worked for me...

I was able to play YouTube videos. Sometimes, with .152, I would get the Error Playing Media. I would refresh the page and then it would work, though.

Downloaded (much faster download speed than BB's website), installed and using it. I'll post some feedback.

Thank you JSanders for the new OS upgrade;

Windows Live Messenger connects a lot better than the other OS.

Just updated to this OS and noticing that the handheld is snappier. Battery life is yet to be determined. The Battery in OS 151 was dramatically improved over previous versions.

Everything seems to work. Well, except fot YouTube. Not a big deal to me. But this should really work.

just updated and youtube works for me without the apn settings. Although the quality has always been too distorted anyways for it to be of any use.

But before i had changed the APN settings with .152, i found youtube worked with Opera and Bolt, but not bb browser. So that's an option you can try.

Default Tmobile- Upgraded this morning

Upgrade went smoothly. Like others, I think the unit is a little quicker. No issues so far...

Is this an official release or beta? How come the posted link does not take you to a RIM directed page?

JS: a follow-up:

As I noted above in the thread, since bringing home the 8900 from T-Mobile (corp retail store), I loaded .152 beta, then .152 production, and now .168 production on the device -- and never deleted vendor.xml from the PC before doing so. The firmware loaded up right away each time with no complaints.

I just took a look in \Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader\...

and found an old Vendor.xml that I must have forgotten to delete earlier from when I still had my 8300 (curioser and curioser). The file date on this is 12/8/2008 -- I'm pretty sure this corresponds to the last time I loaded a 4.5.x.x OS for the 8300 onto the PC.

The Vendor.xml that I found has the following content:
<vendorsrc version="0.0.0.0">

</vendorsrc>

The other files in the same folder have dates such as 2/3/2009 (all the various Loader*.* files and a few others). I'm guessing that Vendor.xml was left over, and not from any of the 3 recent installs I've done.

I'd be curious to see what others have in this folder, and for this file.

Not all official releases are hosted by RIM -- T-Mobile, for instance, takes you to their own site (or a T-Mobile branded site, regardless of who manages it). This is simply a site branded by, branded for, or managed by, a carrier, but it appears to be an official release.

Here are my findings:
Battery life is not as good as 152
GPS tracks pretty fast now, about 30 seconds or less compared to the minutes it took before.
Reception is good.
YouTube works.
Maps app cannot be alt-switched into
Everything else has been solid.

So is this release official?
