Default Help: very frustrated, just bought 8700c - service book issues

Please Login to Remove!

OK, so I tried the Treo650 for about 2 weeks and after reading about how much better the 8700c was, I went and exchanged my Treo for one.

So far, I'm very disappointed. I set up the Blackberry Internet service and had an email forwarded to my blackberry from my Gmail account.

However, when I try to send an email it gives me the message 'No message services configured - will only be able to save draft.'

After doing research on the RIM site, I found a KB article that deals with this. However, this forum software won't let me link it because I have less than 10 posts. It is KB 03828. It mentions that the service, specifically the Web Client (CMIME) service is missing, which it is. However, I have sent and resent service books to my phone several times. I cannot get this service to show up. There is also no option in my phone to regenerate encryption keys as the site suggests.

Also, loading the Desktop Manager software, there are only 3 options, application loader, backup and restore, and intellisync. There is no Redirector Options or any other thing to click as the site suggests there should be.

Help?

Do you have a BlackBerry Data Plan on your account?

If you go into Options --> Advanced Options --> Service Book, you don't see a WebClient [CMIME] or the one for your gmail account? If you do see them, do they have a chechmark next to them?

They told me that since I was not using an enterprise/exchange server, I could use the 29.99 plan with no problems, and I did not need to use the 44.99/month plan or whatever it is.

I questioned them carefully and told them I needed full email/data access etc, and they said this would cover it. So unless they did not set it up...is there anyway to check?

Also, when I go to services in Security Options - there are 'no services listed.'

Edit: There is no Web Client [CMIME] service at all, as I originally sent. I have backup/restored/wiped clean the service books and resent them all.

I missed what carrier you are using. And it must SPECIFICALLY be a BlackBerry Data Plan.

What model BB do you have and what carrier?

Do you have any service books in there?? If so, could you list them.

NJBlackBerry could very well be on the right track as well. If you don't have the specific BB plan then you will never get the service books.

At the top of the screen it should read EDGE (not edge) and should show Cingular Wireless. What does it show?

It is EDGE in all caps, Cingular below it.

The Cingular Wireless site is cryptic: on my plan, here's what it lists under 'features':

BBRYBISUNL $29.99

I know this is the 'lower' plan but he said this is all I would need.

The services I have are:

Provisioning
Browser Config for 5 Click
IPPP for 5 Click
Cingular Browser
Cingular WAP Secure Transport
BBFS1 [BBIMConfig]
Wap Push Config [WAPPushConfig]

Also, can y'all tell me why on the Desktop Manager when I go to 'Application Loader' there is nothing listed. Is that normal?

Thanks for the quick responses,
Fox

Go into Options / Advanced / Host Routing Table
Click the wheel and select "Register Now". See what happens.

Yes, that is normal. You will ultimately need to download the 8700c handheld O/S from one of the carrier web sites. After this is working, please check out the Sticky Thread FAQs at the top of the General BlackBerry Discussion forum. Loads of details there, including the locations on where to download the latest handheld OS versions.

Interesting thing here. I registered it and got the 'you are registered' text message.

However, I had this message already when I got the phone (he said he did it for me) and I had it AGAIN (along with 3 messages listed 'top tips', 'top 20 ways' etc from Blackberry). The interesting thing is, these were listed under 'March 20, 2006'.

I called and asked him and he said the phone's default date was set to that day when he first turned it on, and had to change it.

I believed him, but why would he have registered it twice (two registered messages were received before I touched the phone, once on today's date, once on March 16th.)

If you got the top tips your BB should be ready to go.

Do you have an icon on the BB to Set Up Internet E-Mail?

Yep, and I have done it with my PIN and IMEI. I sent the service books and stuff through the online service. It's just sending email that is a problem.

Was this a new BlackBerry or previously owned?

It's supposed to be new. He gave me the whole box and everything and it had the protective wrap on the screen.

Please go into Options / Security Options / General Settings

What does it say next to "IT Policy Name" and when was the Last Updated date and time.

Thanks again for your help.

In the menu you asked me to look in, under Services, it says *** no services ***.

There is nothing listed here.

Call Cingular Data Services and tell them that your BlackBerry is not provisioned properly. I am out of ideas.. Sorry.
