Default turning off ssid on dlink 655 kills connection w/8320

<sorry again. not only do i double post, i double post in the wrong section. i'm going to bed ... [g]>

hi folks:

just got a new curve to replace my 8700g (which now looks like an ugly stepsister next to it).

i usually run with the ssid (beacon) turned off but i turn it on when i setup new devices. the curve connected first time, but when i turned ssid off the connection dropped and nothing i could do would bring it back until i turned the ssid back on.

i spoke with tmo tier3 who suggested that i call dlink. but the curve is the only one of at least a half-dozen devices that has this problem, so i'm reluctant to brave the indian tech support to try to explain the problem.

any tips or info appreciated. i have other security measures in place, but not having the ssid broadcast will make the other victims, er, ah, you know--stand out. [g]

/guy

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but we have been fighting with an Access Point for the last couple of days.

We planned to put it in with WPA + AES + Hidden SSID, short story, the laptops, yes i know they are not BBs but it may be pertinent kept dropping the connection.

Changed to WPA + TKIP + Hidden SSID, connection stays up just grand.

Don't know why it happens but it does.

The laptop is an easy fix if you are using Windows Vista or XP

Go into Network / click on Network and Sharing Center then click on Manage Wireless Networks. Right click on the network name and select properties. Then click on Connect even if the network is not broadcasting then click okay. Your laptops will connect to the network every time.

The BB is what I am having the problem with. Even when I manually add the network in the Bold's WiFi setup it still can't connect when the SSID is not broadcast.

I have the same problem with the 8320 and my d-link dir-655. I am using wpa2 with AES and if I broadcast my ssid all is good with my 8320. Once I turn off broadcasting I am disconnected.

Anyone have any ideas?
