I've got a new Cingular 8800 and upgraded software of 4.2.1.72/2.3.0.54.
Whenever I try to add the new .alx files I receive the error message of
"No additional applications designed for your device were found".

What am I missing.

Welcome to the forums,

You aren't doing it properly. download the edited .alx file that matches your OS version number. Replace your Blackberry.alx file with the downloaded one. Then simply plug in the BB, run Desktop Manager and then open Application Loader. You should see that "core applications" is set to "upgrade." Finish the installation. You do not use the "add" feature to add the blackberry.alx.

Never mind.
Got it figured.

But sprint and verizon themes do not work.

Brave is the KEY word lol.

I cannot believe I was SUCH A TOOL!

Over this past weekend I tried to be braved and backed out at the last moment of implementing my hack job. I figured WHY not just go with Jibi's flow. just do like he says. install new firmware. let it boot up. then replace the Blackberry.alx, basically following everything he stated. WORKED flawlessly for my Pearl.

I'm now a happy camper.
I'm guessing that a FULL READ of his post after querrying the SEARCH for it (psst the one with the MOST READs on it). Thats all it took, plus a kindly PM for a grudging missunderstanding on my part. :D

No I can be adverterous and see what was supposed to be edited in the Blackberry.alx file.

Don't doubt his posts - he's earned it.

Cheers to all.

Me too. Took the plunge and did it. All is well. The extra themes are too cool!

This looks promising, but before I take the proverbial plunge, if I do this, will the Dimension Today Plus theme be available to me if I do? And, if so, will it just be under Options/Themes, or will I have to go get it (and from where)?

Basically, all I'm looking for here is ANY way to use the Dimension Today Plus theme on my 8800 (Cingular, v.4.2.1.72, BES).

Thanks all! This board is EXTREMELY helpful!

Default unlock all themes

this is a very easy way to unlock all the themes for your bb...

i copied this from a member of another bb board

Ok everyone, I am creating this because I read over and over people asking how to install certain themes for exp. The "Zen" theme but run into issues like it does not work or they do not understan how to do it correctly. So here is the easiest way and most perm.

Step 1) Find your current OS software file located here in most cases...
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\"deviceOSversion" exp. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.1.0.286_P2.0.0.123

Step 2) Right click on the "Blackberry.alx" and select "Open with" and select notepad or wordpad.

Step 3) Once opened look for the following vendorid = <xxxx>

Step 4) Find the Vendor Code for your providor by holding down the Alt, Cap, H buttons.

Step 5) Once found find all themes for your device type in the list below and replace whatever vendor code they have with yours.

<!-- Cingular US filesets -->
<fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Qwerty" Java="1.0" series="8700" _vendorID="102">
<files>
net_rim_theme_102_320x240.cod
</files>
</fileset>
<!-- T-Mobile filesets -->

<fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Reduced" Java="1.0" _vendorID="100">
<files>
net_rim_theme_100_240x260.cod
</files>
</fileset>
<!-- Vodafone filesets -->
<fileset Colour="True" KeyboardType="Qwerty" Java="1.0" _vendorID="118|120|124|130|132|133|137|138|139|140 |143|148|152|153|161|166|167|168|176|188|192|193|1 94|195|196|197|198|199|200">
<files>

Step 6) I have only listed a few for example. For instance if it shows _vendorID="105"> and your vendor code is "100" then make it look like this _vendorID="100">

Just a friendly reminder you only need to edit the ones with your device type for example all the 8700 are for 87xx only any others will laod but not be functionable. Qwerty is for all 72xx series and Reduced is for 71xx series devices.

Step 7) After you have finished changing the Vendor Codes just save the file and run apploader.

Note: Anytime you download a new Software you will have to do this again.

Anybody have a screenshot (or, better yet, the BG image) from the Rogers Curve theme? I'm trying to do a custom theme that plays off of it, but can't find a screen shot of it anywhere. I've been searching like mad, but just can't find it.

I'm talking about the one with the red ribbon-like thing in the main area with the icon grid.

Thanks!

i have seen a lot of discussion on the web regarding the orange 8820s blockage of bb maps, however no one seems to have a categoric answer. Most of the response seems to sway around the editting of the alx file... i have done this to no avail ... does someone have a fixed set of alx files (lb and blackberry) that will make the bb maps visible on the orange 8820.

I will add it to the list. However, in the mean time you can follow the instructions at Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ to edit your own.

It doesn't transfer over to the 8800, sorry. I don't even think it can be transferred from the 8700.

You can load the .cod file and it will show as installed but you won't be able to activate it.
