RIM will exchange/replace the device for a cheaper fee than Cingular, however, they will take 5-7 business days. The other problem is that they will set-it to factory defaults for Cingular and the device will be locked.
Does this make sense? There is a manufacturing defect that RIM is not willing to acknowledge that is the problem not the unlocking of the device.
What can be done???? Please help.

Where did you buy it from, is it Cingular Branded and what did you tell Cingular? Yes, they will not send you an unlocked one you should have kept it quite and not told them about it and got it a replacement and then later call them to give you the unlock code for it and even if you have to get it unlocked it would be $30 and better than having to pay that much. If i was you I would call warantee exchange (that is if it is Cingular Branded) and try to get a replacemtn and do not say any thing about it being unlocked.
