I have seen in the forum you have kindly sent several sites to download OS 4.x for many countries such as UK, Australia and many carriers like Cingular, O2, etc. nevertheless my BlackBerry was bought in Mexico and my carrier is Telcel.

I wonder if I can download the upgrade from any site and use it with my equipment.

I really appreciate any help you could provide me with.

Thanks and regards!

Hi,

Do you have the APN for Telcal? Do you have a full BlackBerry plan (email and web working)? Then it should not be a problem.

Just follow these instructions:

BlackBerryOS Upgrade Downloads
(Download somebody else's BlackBerryOS 4.0 and then follow the 'delete vendor.xml' instruction)

Configuring Internet On BlackBerry - WAP/APN/Gateway Settings
(Make sure you find the APN for Telcal)

Then IM+ should likely work. (If APN is not possible, get some cheap Hosted BES solution which should work.)

glopez1977 - try calling Telcel and asking.

If you don't have anything by Monday I'll talk to one of my coworkers who deals with Telcel and ask him what it is for you.

Default Telcel Outrageous Internet Charges

Hello everyone,
I have a new 8700g with Telcel in Mexico and have recently got billed a $230 USD equivalent in additional charges for internet service although I still have the blackberry paid service as well. They charge us about $37 USD for Blackberry internet service yet want to bill extra. Is this fair? I use Webmessenger for MSN and Skype and bbWeather along with occasional use of Idokorro Mobile Desktop. If I don't figure out how to pay the normal internet rate, I'll broke quick. jajajaj. It kind of bothers me considering I already shelled out about $90 in blackberry aftermarket products. I complained to customer service and their only response was that I must have placed my sim card on another non-blackberry phone. (which is not true). they have advised the I use apn30 but did not specify how exactly.

I have my TCP settings currently at:

APN: internet.itelcel.com
Username for APN: === blank ===
Password for APN: === blank ===

I can't even remember if I placed this setting myself from finding it on the web or if it was already setup from the phone distributor. Either way, I think it seriously limits the users capabilities if we have to pay per kb or whatever they happen to use for usage monitoring. For now, I'm waiting to hear from their investigation center as to why I have additional charges. Any idea how I can get apn30 to work. This has been there recomendation as far. I tried apn30.com, internet.apn30.com, to no avail.

Ayudame,

A mexican blackberry fanatic.

Telcel subscribers have informed us that correct TCP/IP settings are:

APN: internet.itelcel.com
Username: webgprs
Password: webgprs2002

Alternatively, username/password fields could be blank.

This is exactly the problem. The connection works fine but the telcel Customer Service responded by saying
Quote:
which basically means that my settings are slightly wrong and should connect through apn30. Any ideas so as to avoid these exuberant charges...
