Default Idiot Newbie Question: TMO 7230 to unlocked 8700c

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BB 7230 from T-Mobile that I've had for about 2 and a half years, and am getting an unlocked Cingular 8700c in a couple of days. What do I have to do to make this thing work with T-Mobile? Just plug in the SIM from my 7230 and go? Do I have to make any changes to my account with T-Mobile?

Like the subject line says, I'm new to this whole thing, and want to make sure I don't mess up my new phone or take it in the shorts on my next bill.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7290/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

If its unlocked you just need to switch sim to other phone but if u want all your data you need to back all your data up on your desktop manage then store it on the new device

I think you also need to give T-Mo the IMEI number and PIN of the 8700 and add it to your BIS account (if that is how you get your email).

if you log into your bis account you can just change the device and put in the pin to the 8700
try that

Actually if you move the SIM card in and the register through Host Routing Table it will change it automatically in the web site.

OK...so I got the phone, put in the SIM card, and it comes up with "Invalid SIM Card." Does that mean it's not unlocked?

Great. So after a little further inspection, when I check out the network it's on, it says T-Mobile, but the little antenna icon in the upper right of the screen says "SOS" next to it.

I assume this, as well as what I posted before, means it's still locked. Correct?

Cool

I can get an unlock key; the person who sent it to me was supposed to have taken care of it before he shipped it off. I'm not worried about getting ripped off, it was free.

I think I'll hang onto it for a little while, thanks for the offer, though!

Wiggie - go into Options / Networks and see if it is set to Automatic or Manual. Make sure it is set to Automatic.

If it was really SIM card locked, I'm not sure it would even come up SOS.
