So it seems that the 8700 goes to sleep mode when a magnet is near it or at least touches it. I've done a search and haven't seen any posts about this but does the magnet kill the phone in anyway / damage it? Is there a way in which you can have the phone not go to sleep mode when a magnet is near?

Its entirely solid state, with no magneto-optical storage, if that's what you're getting at. There's no way you can harm the device, unless you have a field big enough to start moving electrons or something. You work at a generator facility or somethin'?

No, you can't disable the sleep function. You can find cases or holsters with no sleeper function though.

lol no i don't, i actually work in a financial institution, and haven't adjusted to the blackberry yet. This is my first blackberry, coming from a sidekick, treo, and the exec, it's a little weird to adjust to.
