I'm pretty sure I tried with the trackpad too but don't recall for sure at this point.

It works with trackpad and touchscreen for me. Also, menu responsiveness has improved, touchscreen performance seems to be better, and battery life is longer.

i agree with dejanh seems more precise and i have not experienced any wrong windows opening . the only thing i have noticed and this may not be with the os is that the messages icon doesnt display txt messages .

I think I will stick with .246 which came installed on my Rogers 9800 (as I believe did the other Cdn telcoms (Bell & Telus)). Haven't had any real issues with .246 other than occasionally trackpad not working until I touch the screen on reboot. Not sure if that is OS or third party theme I am using.
Memory leak much better on .246 than OS 5 on my bold 9000. Battery life probably not as good than on OS 5 with Bold 9000.
I see why iPhone users universally miss the physical keyboard. I have had the 9800 since Cdn launch on Sept 30 and cannot do more than a few letters before pulling out keyboard. Must shorten my password, which is about all I use touch pad keyboard for. Never get my password right on first try.

My email and other stuff would open from the notification bar OK...the problem I had was installing a 6 news on the go application that I had downloaded...and was setting up from the app home screen icon,it would come up with AT$T wireless application install...and the icon had nothing ta do with the AT$T wireless application..

I will add this,I didn't see a big difference in the browser performance between .284 and .246 as some have reported,its smooth and the browser speed is pretty snappy,as is .246

without running an actual speed test,it would be hard to pick..

Verified. I can use the trackpad to open email from the pulldown, but not the touchscreen.

I got my Torch last weekend from Bell Mobility and it came with .246

This is, hands down, the best OS for the Torch, if not just for the increased battery life and general system performance.

What did you upgrade from? From what I have read .246 was a significant, must have, improvement over previous OS's, which led to all North American provides, AT&T, Rogers, Bell and Telus adopting it.
With the such an obvious defect as not being able to use the touch screen to get e-mails, it is surprising it was ever released by RIM. Maybe compared to releases prior to .246 it is a great improvement over those. Before I try .284 I want to hear from users of .246 that .248 is a significant improvement over .246 that will make up for the defect of not being able to get e-mails form the touch screen.

Couldn't disagree with you more.
Glad that you're experience is better than mine. .284 was complete garbage on my device.
Reverted to .246 within hours and that remains the most stable for me.

Other than apparently duane534, does anyone prefer .284 over .246?
I have been a follower of Blackberry.com for quite a while and I cannot remember an official OS slammed more than .284.
Thanks for the input penguin3107, normally I jump at the latest official OS. You have confirmed my decision to steer clear of .284.

I tried .284 for a week and there was just too many bugs. The browser seemed faster but I was having trouble selecting small links, sometimes tapping the link three or four times before it worked. I also had the notifications bug, I couldn't select messages from the drop down menu by tapping them unless I first rolled the trackpad down the list. I'm now using .246 and it's working just fine.

I am using the 284 for a while now, Its great, no issues to report at all.
The phone is faster, sounds are louder, browser is faster, notifications work perfect both on touch pad and touch screen. For those who are having any problems with it, note that you must never install upgrades on existing software, you should remove (uninstall) the older software and install a fresh one on your device.

Never, eh? Funny since RIM doesn't say that anywherr in their documnetation and they and the carriers will push updates that install over the top of existing software. Also I know people at RIM who have reproduced the notifications problem and have told me it will be fixed in a future release.

As I have posted before, this OS release is leaps and bounds better for me than 246 my device came with. Better battery life, faster and more responsive menus, more free memory despite more apps being installed, no issues with email notifications regardless of touchpad or touchscreen. I really do not understand why some people are having problems with it on some devices. I'd bet it is a problem with how the upgrade was done and configured.

How are you going to prove it? I've already confirmed with my source at RIM that its a duplicated issue and that its fixed in the next release.
