Default BIS Is Getting Better

Please Login to Remove!

My employer tasked me with testing a Blackberry (9630 without a camera) with our Corp. IMAP servers after years of searching for the right solution for our mobile employees.

I have to admit that RIM has really improved IMAP handling since the early days of BIS which was rather shabby.

It seems that currently there is 1-way reconcile (read/unread flags) from the Berry to the IMAP server, the capability for the Berry to place a copy of a users sent mail in the user's IMAP sent-mail folder and it also appears that when a user deletes an email from the Berry it moves that email to the user's deleted mail folder on the server. All good and an improvement since last time we looked at a Berry solution.

What is missing? The ability to view/file email in other folders, the ability for the IMAP server to reconcile read/unread flags with Berry via the BIS (Should be a fairly simple implementation when the BIS checks for new mail it could also check for changed flags) and IMAP_IDLE (though that is the least important in my opinion).

All in all, I have to admit that I am fairly happy with the Berry and if things continue I think that my employer might finally have found an acceptable mobile email solution.

What is the feeling, is RIM going to improve BIS in future to incorporate more IMAP functionality?

Thanks for any insight,
Dan

Two way gMail IMAP sync is supposedly on its way... We'll see.

Wow, Yahoo has read/unread status sync from web to BB.... I'm so jealous, since I use Gmail. But hopefully RIM will make it 2-way "soon".
