Default Unlocking Bold on Rogers, Possible Side Effects?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, I just got by BB Bold today and lov'in it! I'm currently on Rogers and I was wondering that if I do decide to unlock my Blackberry, will it have any side effects? (like can't use some particular Roger's feature?)

I know that it will probably void the warranty, but I really need to use this somewhere else too!

Thanks!

-Mike

Why unlock it? Rogers locks nothing down. To unlock it would only allow you to go to other carriers which here in Canada is ummmm no one... Unless you travel or plan to do so unlocking could allow you to buy a prepaid SIM so you could have a foreign number while in Germany for 3 weeks and not have to pay roaming fees.

Other then that save your money. Unlocked when selling the phone can increase its value cause now anyone on a GSM carrier can but it not just Rogers customers.

I don't think unlocking it will void your warranty. Correct me if I am wrong, debranding may void it, but, unlocking will not.

Correct, unlocking does not void your warranty. I've unlocked many devices over the years and then received warranty replacements for them with no issues at all.

I'm on Rogers too, and travel quite a bit - how do I unlock it? Will Rogers provide an unlock code, or do I have to go to one of these 3rd-party places and get them to do it?

Rogers may give you an unlock code, but if not, try Cory here:

Thx for all the answers!

I wanted to unlock it so that I can use it when I'm abroad and using local carriers. But it is nice to know that it does not (or at least if the technician doesn't find out) void the warranty.

Has anyone tried the software unlock? or should I just play it safe and pay the remote unlock sites?

Possible side effects include priapism...
Sorry, wrong commercial.

I took the safe road and paid Horizon Wireless around $19 to unlock my Bold. Seemed like a very good deal, and it was!
