No problem with the installation. So far can't see anything different but all is running smoothly.

The current OS is:
v5.0.0.351 (Platform 5.1.0.98)

I did not forget to delete the vendor.xml file.
I have also attempted to install the past 2 operating systems with no success. Both occasions I deleted the "vendor.xml" file and I tried it both the Desktop Manager and the Loader.exe file.

Do I need to delete the O/S that is currently loaded on the blackberry in order to get it to update? When I attempt to 'force load' the O/S I get an error message saying it is not compatible with my blackberry. I'm still stuck on v5.0.0.351 (PL 5.1.0.98).

I was experiencing the same issue when attempt to upgrade the O/S on my 9000 Bold from 4.x to 5.x

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

I've seen a lot of users that have to do that. Remove ALL OS installations on your PC except for the one you are loading.

AND, use the loader.exe method. Make CERTAIN that DM is closed and NOT running in the background of your PC processes (open Task Manager and close it).

General observations after about a day and a half of usage... I had been on .421 since mid-December.

1) Seems slightly faster, both general navigation and browser usage. Could be nothing and I wasn't complaining about .421 either, but just a gut feeling.

2) Battery life seems slightly worse. Same as above, just a gut feeling. Will be able to say more about it in a few more days.

3) One improvement for certain over .421 is responsiveness after unlocking. We use an IT Policy to require device encryption ("Content Protection") along with a password lockout. On .421, after unlocking, the UI would be very slow to respond to trackpad movements and clicks, opening apps, etc. This would last for 30-60 seconds. None of that with .442.

4) Nothing that was working is now broken - that's always good.

5) Some UI quirks with QuickLaunch are no longer there.

All in all, a good update - no complaints. Thanks Zain, whoever you are.

Default Wireless OTA update

Any specific reason why one shoudn't use the wireless update instead of desktop manager? Thanks.

Thanks,

You could only use wireless update for your carriers updates.

Seeing how you are on AT&T and this update is from Zain in Jordan. No you cant use wireless. If fact AT&T release updated OS 5.0.0.405, so if you are waiting for AT&T update you may be waiting kinda long.

Battery life seems worse to me too. There must be a reason, something not shutting down. Haven't found it yet. Pretty sure though that software can't effect the battery on its own.

Hello everyone,

I really need some help here.

I have deleted every other OS I had then installed this OS, I uninstalled my Desktop Manager and deleted the vendor.xml file and still it does not recognize the new OS.

UPDATE
I have also tried deleting the device.xml file to see if that had any issues and it still shows the same error message when I attempt to force load the Blackberry.alx

Please help,
--Phil

Actually, I was able to update OTA and it worked fine; I did have to resynch my BIS email accounts afterwards.

Thanks.
