Default Can't get the battery cover off to even activate

Please Login to Remove!

I spent an hour trying to get the battery cover off so I can activate and start using the Bold. I can't do it.

Such a bummer... I was so excited and to just sit here unable to open the back is a real downer.

I don't want to break the thing...

Please help....

Thanks for the link. He is doing the opposite of what the directions say but so what - clearly it is working for him. But still not me. I can't get this thing off for love nor money. I may have to call and return it and get anther one.

I have had several Curves so I am aware of how battery covers work.

To say I am disappointed is putting it mildly.... I have been waiting for days for this phone. Really, months. I wanted one of these back in June but decided to wait until the 2nd generation. Clearly... I will be still waiting.

It just slides off. It is very tight though. Hopefully you can get it to come off. I had a hard time with mine as well.

I did get it once. But I can't get it again, meaning this one is too difficult. I have to be able to get into the back of this thing with relative ease - like the dude in the video.

I called AT&T and they are sending me another one.

Really? Come on it's not that hard.

Easy way to do it.

Flip the phone upside down. Place the back (leather part) against the palm of your left hand.

With your right hand push the phone against your left hand and pull the phone down.

If you still can't do it then take the phone to an AT&T store and they can do it for you.

Thanks for the advice but I believe something is wrong with this one. that can happen. I had a Curve once and the first time I opened the back a part fell off. I had to return it. So, I know things like this can happen. I just really, really didn't want something to go wrong this time.

I'm sure the next one will be fine. I don't mind a bit of a struggle, but my thumbs are STILL sore - this was ridiculous. And we BB users all know battery pulls can and do happen - and when they do, I want to excute with speed - not beat on the device until my thumbs can't bend without pain.

I believe the new one won't have the same issue. I was just unlucky.

In the end patience will win the day here... I want this right.

Thanks again for the replies here... it was all very helpful.

Onward and upward....

I had the same problem when I got it! Best thing to do is take a slightly damp bounty, fold it so it just covers the back, and use your thumbs to slide it down, it'll work! LOL,...RIM just can't seem to get it right when constructing battery covers. One thing I did notice, grabing the phone with all your might as u try to pry this door off, will just loosin the chrome sides, so use the damp paper towel... ; )

It's not really that difficult at all in my opinion. The memory card slot is way more difficult.

Thanks for the advice here... if somebody else runs into trouble with it they can try what you suggested (hopefully they will search the forum.) But I have already gotten a return label from AT&T and purchased a new one that should be here Monday. The bad one is all packaged and ready to leave in the box at this point...

Again, thanks for the tip!

Thatxxx8217;s because yours works. Thatxxx8217;s also why they have a warranty xxx8211; even the company knows things can and do go wrong xxx8211; otherwise they wouldnxxx8217;t even offer one.

This video shows the easiest way to remove a BB 9700 back cover. I use this technique on my 9700 and it works great.

I went to the store today and bought one. I didn't want to wait until Monday for the mail to come. I am currently tripple charged until the returns all hit, but I didn't want to blow the weekend when I could be using this down time to be setting this thing up so I am ready to go...

Guess what, the back popped off the first time - easy as pie.

It works when it's not busted.

Thanks again for all the tips and video - as I said, I'm sure it will help others who search the forum if this happens to them. But if it is too hard - it's busted - return it and get another one.

I'm having the same problem I just can't get the darn thing off. I've watched the video about ten times. I'd like to think I'm not this dumb! Been waiting a week for it to arrive in the mail from walmart.com. I'm sure the return process will take at least a week if I can't figure this out.

I am not able to remove the cover with my thumbs like the guy in the video-- mine is really tight. However, if I use the palm of my hand to apply the pressure and push, then I get it easily everytime. (This is the way the AT&T store rep showed me). Just be certain that your other hand holds the phone without applying pressure to the screen-- I imagine the screen could crack if the bottom hand holding the phone is pressed against the screen.

Try this:
*9700 face down (horizontal) with the top in your left hand and the bottom in your right hand
*With your left thumb push down on the Blackberry symbol and left fingers grasing the top of the 9700 (not the display!)
*With your right thumb slide to the right.
