4.5.0.108 Installation Problem 8320
Please Login to Remove!
I originally had 4.5 version 55 on I believe. I downloaded the new version from blackberry.com and installed it. My blackberry may have been plugged in. I ran DM but got no upgrade option. I made sure I deleted the vendor.xml file. I then checked and figured that I needed to uninstall the old 4.5 installation. I did so ran DM again and nothing. I decided to downgrade to t-mobile's 4.2.2...Still it didnt give me an upgrade prompt but when I chose the Application Load icon in DM it gave me the option of downgrading. I did so. Uninstalled 4.5. Downloaded a fresh copy, and installed it. I opened DM and got no upgrade screen. I decided to uninstall the 4.2 software from t-mobile and see what happened. Nothing changed. I still got no upgrade screen. When I click the Application Load icon it says no software found.
I run DM version 4.5 on Vista.
Please help. (Less pertinent problem) In addition I backed up my info twice and I still dont have my address book back.

Welcome to the forums.
I just want to be sure, but did you download the OS version for your device?

That should be right. What version is on the device currently? Still 4.2?
Maybe try a reboot of the PC and the device?
Also, what version of DM are you running?

Brief summary of the steps:
- download the application
- execute it on your PC
- locate and delete VENDOR.XML on your PC C: drive
- restart Desktop Manager

Everything sounds in order. I would double check and verify the vendor.xml file is not anywhere on your PC.
Also, In DM, go to help, about DM and click the device software tab. What version are you showing in there?

Vista sometimes has multiple instances of vendor.xml. Make sure you delete ALL of them

I've done a search of my hard drive for any vendor files. None.
I have uninstalled Desktop Manager 4.5, downloaded Desktop Manager 4.6 and am installing it as I type.
I have uninstalled OS 4.5.0.108 and reinstalled it. I have rebooted my blackberry.

Have you looked in Desktop Manager (Help) to see what versions of the Handheld OS DM thinks are loaded.

ITS VISTA. i ran into the same problem. did 1 upgrade nice then 2 days later all the same files and it wouldnt do it. this is why i started a thread talking about vista bugs and fixes. to many random problems with vista and upgrades. if you can get to an xp machine it will go fine.

It thinks it has 4.2.2.180 which is the OS I downgraded to.
I completely uninstalled everything. What the hell is going on with Vista? Its gotta keep some cache that is ruining my blackberry. When I backed it up twice, neither backup kept my calendar or address book. My most important assets.
Are there no solutions?

Do you mean they were not restored to your device?
Maybe your device has Wireless Sync set to yes for the calendar and address book.
Go into each application and make sure wireless sync is set to off.
If DM is showing 4.2 then it doesn't see the installation of 4.5 on your PC. Try deleting 4.2 and installing 4.5. This very well could be an issue with Vista. Have you rebooted the PC after installing DM or the OS?

I was going to say that I had the same problem you had and it turned out it was Vista. Even though I had done about 4 upgrades on that same computer using Vista.
Went to a computer with XP and BAM! Problem fixed.
Glad you figured it out.
