Default Beta Testers Needed!!

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Guys

Need non Verizon, Continental US Blackberry users for Beta testing software that Blocks TXTing while Driving.

I know that lots of folks here will be against anything that limits using your blackberry, but distrated driving is a real problem. Not just with teens. Help make a difference.

Please send me a PM for web address and coupon code. We DO NOT want the web adress on the forum just yet.

The goal of the product is to create a safer mobile phone experience by limiting phone use while driving or at inappropriate locations. The software also allows the phone’s location to be pinpointed on an interactive map. The phones location history can also be analyzed. Geofence email alerts can be created to let parents know that children have made it to school, soccer practice, etc.

On the website there are links to articles and news reports on the dangers of TXT-ing while driving if you’re interested in learning more about this.

The test requires you to create a user account, select phone settings and install the beta software onto the BlackBerry. Creating the user account and installing the beta software takes skilled users 8 to 10 minutes and average users about 15 minutes. During the set up and installation, we would request that you also “play dumb” and use our live support operator (when they are on line) to ask questions. We are trying to get the bugs worked out of that too!

Once the software is installed, we would ask that you test and “live” with the software for a couple of days, then send us the log file that the software automatically creates along with any issues that may have occurred.

Along with your message, please send the following details:

BlackBerry Model (must have GPS)
Carrier
Software version
Brower version
Country (we are only ready for testing in the US)
State
City

Thanks

**moved to the Aftermarket Software section**

Our "Beta" software section refers to beta RIM software, OS, etc.

The biggest problem is trying balance that beer between the legs while texting with one hand and steering with the other hand. Steering wheel knocks the beer bottle around, using a can is shorter and allows less attention diversion from the texting.

Why does this not apply to Verizon users? I'd be interested in testing as well.

I think it is because Verizon blocks the use of the GPS to all apps except for BB Maps and VZ Navigator.

This needs the ability to just block SMS as I use a Blutooth headset and do not want everything else disabled.

Thanks

John -- thanks for the comments. We have that ability for win mobile to granulate to sms alone, and are working it into the BB. You certainly keep both hands on the wheel when using your bluetooth, however the distraction level is still high.

Studies show the crash rate among teens drivers doubles or quadruples with two or three passengers, respectively, when compared to driving alone. Talking on the phone is is kind of like having another person in the car.... that was the thinking for the block all.

If you go to the driving preferences menu, you can select block sms only for win mobile phones.

Let's say I am in the geographical area not even driving say shopping or sitting in a parking lot I would like to be able to make a call. As far as taking using a bluetooth I am not sure that is much different that talking to someone in the car.

Thanks

Hi John - Ideally, the geofence should be set for only times when blocking is appropriate. On the geofence set up screen set the days of the week and the times diring the day that mobile use is not appropriate. All other times it will be allowed.

As far as the parked car, the software unlocks after a couple of minutes. If you want to use it sooner -- say you just pulled into the parlking lot, choose update location from the menu. If you start driving again, however the phone will resume the block.

Thanks but what I really need is just the ability to block text messages. I do rely on the phone to receive work calls even after I leave work.
