DRM is copy protection for certain types of media files. (audio, video, etc.)
It doesn't have anything to do with the operating system.

Posted in stock/legal forum?

At any rate, did you figure out your vendor code as JSanders was asking in http://www.blackberryforums.com/blac...oading-os.html?

When I read the thread I googled around to figure out what drm versus nodrm OS means exactly. Near as I could tell vodaphone is the only one with drm os, and I suspect that is where JSanders was going with his question in that thread.

I posted it here because DRM is somewhat a legal discussion, am I right?

Now I know that my device has neither DRM or non-DRM OS. Because my device is "Engineering Use Only". I already know the effect but believe it or not, it works fine. The only problem that I want to resolve is the upgrading the OS of my device. Does it have any effect if the device is "Engineering Use Only"? I do not want to try it unless I have a clear answer for this. Thanks anyway.

By the way, kindly inform me if someone from the forum admin will transfer this post from another topic because as you can see, there are still questions that are left unanswered. Thanks!

DRM devices will only install DRM OS releases.
noDRM devices will only install noDRM OS releases.

You'll know your answer of what kind of device you have according to whether the OS installs or not, since it is an engineering sample device.

Otherwise, I've never seen an "engineering use only" OS

Actually, in the case of the Storm, DRM does matter. Because of a-specific laws in the EU, there is a specific hardware model of the Storm to comply with their laws. And you'll see the varying operating system release files names with "nodrm" or "drm" in the file name.

Ah, OK. Never worked with the Storm. Makes sense to me.
