Exclamation Free SMS backup! Check it out =)

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I came accross an open source program called IPD-Dump 0.1.0 that allowed users to extract sms content from their IPD backup files to the screen. I've made a few modifications(0.1.1) to it so now it outputs your sms's to a file called OutPut.html.

To this date I am unable to contact the owner of the project, I insist all credit goes to him or her.

Original Project page: ipddump - Google Code

Instructions are included in the file and also listed below.

IPDump 0.1.1

Warning!

As of now, IPDump 0.1.1 can only work on ipd backup files containing SMS data only! Make sure when your creating your backup with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager you go to Advanced options and backup only your SMS data and not the whole thing!

You click on items highlighted in blue
You type in items highlited in green

How To:

1. Extract the zip file contents to your computer(I choose C:\).
2. Drop your IPD file into it.
3. Once the folder is created, click Start Menu > Run > type in CMD and hit enter.
4. On the black window that comes up type in cd.. and press enter until you get C:\ to display by itself.(May need to do it more then once)
5. Finally type ipdump.jar -jar yourfilenamehere.ipd and press enter.
6. Notice a new file called Output.html is created. Simply double-click in it and
you will get to see the results.

Perhaps it's the attitude shown here that may lead to a short tenure.

Let me clarify a bit for you. I come here to post something useful. As I finish Typing up my post your awesome message board tells me I can't post links or attachments until I hit the 10 Post mark. I go around your forum posting quick and useless remarks to get around such useless approach to spaming until I hit the 10th post. Then someone without reading the content of my post decides to reply and state that its exactly the same as a previous wich IT IS NOT. An example of a stmart remark is bashing on people that are just trying to help such as:

"Ah, new and improved version of the same."

I mean notice the difference between this moderator's reply and the first one that replied to me.

Also this followup email is quite awesome too,
"I've noticed a couple smart remarks to users her tonight, from you. We tend to be more of a professional community here, and the atmosphere your post creates in not where we want to head."

Clarification:

If I didnt have to go around random posts I couldn't care less about just to get 10 replies in and be able to post links and attachments this wouldnt exist. They weren't smart remarks, they were just useless.

I think your time would have been better well spent by welcoming some new members in the New Members forum, rather than posting 'useless' posts just to reach 10 posts.

There is a reason the 10 post rule is enforced, and that is discourage spammers from posting 'useless' advertisements on the forums (most of which are removed before anyone even knows they are there).

Your 'useless' posts, and mostly your attitude since, are not the way to go about things.

Argue as you need. So you don't like our posting requirements regarding links, therefore you make several useless smart remarks.

May I echo Juwaack, that perhaps it is your attitude then that will make your stay short.

Since I was the one who sent you the polite and timely warning, I will speak up. It was a warning. You may take it as a slap across the face, or as it was intended as a warning. You posted several mean spirited and smart remarks to people in a couple threads. It was a warning, and that was all.

If I had not wanted you to be around this forum, we would not be having this conversation now.

I am betting Mr. Fisher had not noticed your reply to another user (not a useless post) in which you flamed her for posting a non-descriptive thread title. I did.

Minor thing, you forgot to include a copy of the BSD license (as required by clause #2, this is a binary form of redistribution with modification) in the zip file. I might suggest you call the jarball 'ipdumphtml.jar' or something as well, since it doesn't appear you provide backwards compatibility (i.e. a commandline switch for retaining the old non-html format); it's a bit of a misnomer to call it a 0.1.1 version if it's not by the same author that made 0.1.0... but that's just me.

Did the ipdump author not like the changes you sent him or something? I see he hasn't edited anything since January, maybe he's abandoned the project. I hate it when that happens...there seemed to be a number of folks who like this. Maybe it's a good chance for you to fork it as a new project on Google Code!

Hmm I wonder if you could extract images from COD files? I want some of default wallpapers for BB to be put in my SD media. That way I doesn't have to use couple of MBs on internal memory for those wallpapers.

Hmmm, I've done some quick research and it seems that settings such as themes and such need to run from the memory otherwise once you remove the card while it is set it may cause issues. For example using one of the song in your memory card as a ring tone may not be an option for the same reason.
