Default Touchscreen Normal?

Please Login to Remove!

Touchscreens on the three PlayBook's I've used have been a bit erratic and unpredictable. Sometimes a light touch is needed. Sometimes heavy. Hard to get the cursor indicator in the correct place for editing. These are just examples.

Is this usual for PlayBooks?

How about for other tablets?

Here's what I've noticed on my 1st generation PlayBook. At times the screen seems unresponsive to a first touch. I believe this is the PlayBook's power management scheme causing what appears to be a lag in the operating system, when really all it has done is to turn off the touch sensitivity of the screen. That's why the first touch seems to do nothing, but what's really happening is that it's powering up the touch sensitivity. Then a second touch, tapped harder by the user in frustration, seems to work. Actually a normal second touch would have worked. I have tested this myself and it's true - at least the part about the second light touch working like normal. The part about the power management algorithm is what I have surmised from discussions on the PlayBook software.

My iPad(s) do not display this lag/unresponsiveness. I don't know why, but again, I suppose it's the way the operating system manages the power and screen.

You mention "1st generation PlayBook ". More than one "generation ". I just got this one first of February. Where does that put it?

Your explanation fits in the overall awkward design of BlackBerry products. And example of that on this device is where the language selector is located. Doubt any individual user has to use it more than once. But it uses valuable keyboard real estate and it is located next to the space bar and, once tapped by mistake, must be used.

An example of another part of the keyboard question is signing on to this site. Today it took 4 attempts before the virtual keyboard would stay displayed. The first three it would just flash and disappear.

I wonder how products other than iPad do?

I have the original model with WiFi only. Shortly after this came PlayBooks with Sprint's WiMax or AT&T's 4G HSPA+. Newer models include built in 4G LTE.

It seems we both have the same model, WiFi only.

I have to confess I admire the loyalty and optimism, however misplaced, of some BlackBerry customers.

Has nothing to do with loyalty or optimism. I bought one at full price and got the other for less than 100 bucks.

Only fools show blind loyalty to a corporation.

I too have a confession. I admire the way you try and deliver a backhanded compliment without coming across as a douche. You almost pulled it off.

Wasn't trying to deliver a compliment. Guess for some folks when I comment on their mental acuity I need to be more direct.

Well, when a frequent poster(part of a core group/club?) descends to calling another person a "douche" you have to expect a strongly negative reaction.

It certainly got my strongly worded disapproval.

I haven't had any problems with my PB touchscreen... Was it running low on memory?
