Default Help..BES Upgrade question

Please Login to Remove!

All,

Ive been tasked with upgrading bes server from verison 3.6 SP7 to 4.1 SP5

Now Ive only recently started at this company and my thoughts are that the hardware is so old it will fall over very soon.

Currently Exchange 2003 Enterprise SP2 on Win 2003 Enterprise SP1.

Ideally I would like to spec and install a new server, install BES server 4.1 SP5 and create a new database.

Im not that familar with bes so wondering what issues this would pose? Can this be setup whilst version 3.6 is running on the domain or will there be conflicts because of the 2 versions on the network at the same time?

The goal is to decomission the old BES server and have all 30 users on the latest version on the new hardware. Would this be possible with minimum downtime / disruption to the end user?

How would you tackle this?

Regards,

Read the upgrade guide a few times.
There is a section on just 3.6.

You can have both servers running only if you have 2 separate SRP IDs, or you disable the services on one server.
The easiest route is to install 3.6 SP7 on the new hardware and then, backup the old db and restore it to the new server, then upgrade your BES software on the new server.

If you don't mind reactivating all the blackberries, then you can just setup the new server and create a new db and just start activating.
