Meeting Announcement

MONTHLY MEETING

Date: Thursday September 9, 2004
Location: bitHeads office
1309 Carling Avenue, Ottawa
(East Side of Westgate Mall, beside the Blockbuster Video Store)
Time: 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm - Networking
7:00 pm to 8:45 pm - Presentations from featured Speakers and Sponsor
8:45 pm to 9:30 pm - Networking

Please join us to network and discuss the business of wireless with professionals from many corners of the wireless sector. The event is open to all wireless professionals free of charge.

This month's meeting features IBM. Three speakers will discuss IBM's pervasive computing strategy developed to assist hand-held device manufacturers, service providers, enterprise I/T organizations in forming a wireless ecosystem where, any device, can access any service, across any network. Enterprises can reach out and mobilize their work forces through Customer Relationship Management or Field Force Automation. Carriers can deliver up to the minute news, weather, sports and financial data hosted on other servers throughout the network. Device manufacturers can offer new and compelling features to differentiate their devices in the eyes of the consumer.

The IBM Workplace Client Technology portfolio of products, including voice, Java, connection management, enterprise frameworks and tools, uses open standards and middleware to connect people to the critical data they need to remain productive, wherever they are. Higher-value data services where data and transactional integrity across global wireless and wireline networks, enables devices to store information when not connected, and deliver it on Demand, to the end user when they reconnect.

The presentations will cover a range of wireless-related technologies (much of which was developed in Ottawa) including IBM Workplace Client Technology and the open-source Eclipse tool framework on which the IBM tools are based, and IBM's ISV program that works with companies building wireless-based enterprise applications using IBM technology.

I'm in Ottawa too. I will be at CEDIA 2004 during this time period, however, I know a local friend developer who's getting started developing for mobile devices. Will forward this to him.
