Default WeatherBug, Huge MEMORY HOG, LEAK!

Please Login to Remove!

I think this is a great program and it has been working for me but I have started to realize how much of a memory hog it really is and it is constantly leaking memory when I need everybit of remaining memory since my free application memory is dropping like a rock!
Is anyone else experiencing this and does anyone have any suggestions short of deleting the application?

Hopefully they'll be addressing that in future updates. It is still beta software and they're working out the kinks.

Why do you just download National and Local Weather Forecast, Hurricane, Radar and Report and go from there. I use that and get all the informaion I did. I have never tried weatherbug but I believe the application is not free right? Does anyone know the differences between the two.

If you go to Bookmarks in your Blackberry Browser ... Click the link to Blackberry HELP! Select News & Weather ... Select Weather ... Then click on the Get Web Signal under the Accuweather.com site you will get push notification daily of your local weather. It works great, not as flashy as weatherbug but very functional.

I read on another forum that there will be a free ad-supported version of WB when the beta is over.

That is possible ... The iPhone does currently offer a free edition however if you want it on your current blackberry (Not Storm) .. It is subscription based.

This memory issue with WeatherBug is a huge problem! When the beta is over this needs to be solved or it is not even a consideration for me!!!

Recently replaced my storm due to a hardware issue. Have not re-installed weatherbug since, and doubt I will. My battery life has improved greatly without having weatherbug installed. Went from lasting 24 hours, I now get 2 days + out of the battery. I would suspect that weatherbug is constantly checking and updating. On previous blackberrys I ran weather bug, but it had options so you could set how often it would update. Anywhere from hours to every 30 minutes. Would like to see that option in this version, maybe it will help battery life.

Thanks for this jsntrenkler. I'm going to try that. Doing IT Consulting, I've had to clean up _way_ too many computers that had weatherbug on them to ever knowingly put that on something I own. If you want to raise my blood pressure just mention that name (among others). Also, why install an app and take up what little app memory that I have left with a memory hog when this will do the job fine.

Up till now I was just using a bookmark to search google with the terms "weather" and <myzipcode>. That was fast, free, and didn't load up yet another performance-sapping program.

I used to use Weatherbug Direct on my Curve. I liked it.

WeatherBug Direct for BlackBerry live local weather plus live temperature and local forecasts direct to your BlackBerry

I don't think it will work on the Storm for now.

Note that WeatherBug was recently updated and now gives you more control (total control) over its use of GPS, auto updates to the icon info, and other battery consuming tasks.

I had deleted it several beta versions back because my battery would be gone in less than one day. This version seems to hardly impact the battery (no GPS use and only hourly updates).

I have not experienced any problems with memory but I do exit the application when I'm done using it so its not running in the background.

Under the weather section, there appears to be several weather apps available, including Weatherbug. Which is the best? Has anyone tried more than Weatherbug or Accuweather?
