boxmeister's theory is a likely culprit. Also, I would guess it could have to do with specific manufacturer of sim cards, as well.

I just got off the phone a bit ago with T-Mobile's Blackberry support. She said my Sim card is bad. I have been unable to maintain EDGE for any amount of time, only GSM for the last couple of days.

I have not been running any of the beta OS, just the latest OS from Tmo. I asked her about BBs with Tmo having Sim cards go bad recently. I told her there have been several complaints on a forum I read. I didn't mention anything about beta software. She said there are no special reports (can't remember the term she used) about that and she personally hasn't dealt with anyone with a bad Sim card, except me, in quite a while.

This probably doesn't mean anything. I just thought it was interesting my Sim would go bad at the same time as all this talk about Sims going bad with Tmo.

Wirelessly posted

Wanda, level 1 customer support isn't going to have this info-they get random calls from a broad area and it is likely a somewhat localized issue. Higher ups in customer support would not likely divulge the info if they had it. Thx for being discrete about the forum but they don't need to know about forums at all, really. You "have a couple of friends w/ BBs that had the same thing happen" would be sufficient. B-)

I woke up this morning to a "sim card not allowed" message. I remembered seeing this thread, so I came back to read it. This is my second sim card death since switching to 4.5 I am running 37 now, I don't recall the previous flavor. Last time i called in first, changed sim cards with my wife to diagnose over the phone, they verified it was a sim card problem (not a phone problem). They noted it to my account in the computer and told me I could go to any T-Mobile store and get a free replacement. I did, no problem.

I will call again this morning and set it up ahead of time so hopefully I won't have to pay $20.

Slight rant- called customer service, they said wait time 12 minutes, new option they would call me when my turn came up. So I put in my number and hung up. Guess what? No call back. -slight rant off.

I went in to the T-Mobile store, told them I fried another card, they gave me a new one, no charge. They were not worried about my OS. They were very concerned with my identity, that I was the person on the contract, and made me show ID. Once they knew I was the real owner, smooth sailing.

Just replaced my 2nd SIM card today at the store. I decided to downgrade back to 4.2 until this is resolved. I can't keep going through SIM cards. It's more of a hassle then anything. With today's gas prices, I can't keep going to the T-Mobile store to get a new SIM card. 4.5 was fun.....for a while.

yup, pretty certain the 4.5 os is frying sim cards. not sure if there's evil intent by t-mo (doubtful) but overnight mine died. been running the .37 version for a week now. elderly card, for sure, but it was fried so bad that at the t-mo store they couldn't properly clone it onto the (free) new one.

I can personally attest to 4.5.0.37 killed 3 of my sim cards. Twice I got a inialization error that kill sims and once I got some kind of sim error. All three times, I had to call TMO customer service and get another sim activated. Luckily I had 2 extra sims laying around the house. The last time I went to the mall, call TMO customer service from the kiosk and TMO paid for my sim. Credited me $22 for the sim and I paid about $21.50 for it.

Located in AZ.

.37 killed 2 of my sim cards in less than a week. I have 8320 with tmo, which seems to be the trend.

Anyone else now having an issue connecting through usb?? I am trying to downgrade back to 4.2 just to be safe and nothing happens when i plug in my usb cord.

Just an FYI. I am running 4.2.2.184 and have never run any of the beta OS of 4.5. Just 15 minutes ago, I just got the message "SIM Card Rejected" on my T-Mobile 8320.

RIM removes 4.5.0.37 Beta from partnersite

I just got an email from a colleague of mime titled "RIM Takes Down OS 4.5.0.37 Beta From Partners Website". So I was curious to check and yes it is true.

I guess it was a lot of noise over the way SIM cards were getting fried that prompted RIM to take this step. Cos from what I do know I have 2 friends who loaded the 4.5.0.37 Beta (one of whom is the one that sent me the email today") for the BB 8320 on the handhelds and they got a "Sim card error"

Now out of the blue RIM has removed the 4.5.0.37 Beta download from the partner website. Thats a first.

I would think unless it really caused some outbreak of complaints they would not do this. You got to remember , the betas are "use at your own risk" so you really cannot complain and moreover if your sim card gets "fried" you got to pay out of you pocket for a replacement.

Oh by the way it was frying only T-Mobile sim cards, from what I do know the AT&T sim cards had no problem. To add another twist to the tale, I know of 1 T-Mobile user on 4.5.0.37 Beta and he has no problem(SO FAR!!!). 2 of the others have got new sim cards (one of them had to get a third card as even the second SIM died of "mysterious circumstances")

For what it's worth, I was talking to a guy at t-mobile blackberry/pda support and he told me that he (and others) are running 4.5 beta software on their personal 8320 curves.

Default Still working

I upgraded the .37 on my Tmobile 8320 the day it came out (2 weeks ago roughly), and I haven't had a SIM card issue. My card is ancient too - it was from back in the voicestream days, which has to be at least 5+ years ago.

Only problem I've had thus far is it won't switch to UMA. It's a beta, so no big deal. With all of the 4.5 releases, I've had many problems with data access; applications and browser seem to lock up on a regular basis.
