Mine has been doing this for awhile too, and I've been on .42, .46, and .52. I've tried to reformat my media card and take off all 3rd party apps. None of it seemed to help. I finally downgraded to 4.2.2 last night. If you find a solution, please let me know!

Try reseating your sim card. Did you ever run .37 on this device?

Hi,
I actually posted this comment below on the 8100 Latest 4.5.0.81 thread too - This is really scary and I need to just confirm that is one of unused sim-cards busted - details are listed below
I need to know if the SIM card damage happens with this release - well I loaded up this firmware on my unlocked cingular 8100 running with T-mobile sim-card/service.
During installation, I had loaded up the phone with a cingular sim-card (not-active)...and after installation - the phone goes into SOS mode (can only make emergency calls), as that card is not active with Cingular.
And then I changed to T-mobile Sim Card and the phone was working, and I was reading the posts about the Sim card being damaged, and I immediately changed sim cards to test out the sim card issue,
I then went to load the phone up with Cingular Sim card (not active service one), and few minutes later, I got the message on the screen - Sim Profile: error (something like that), and after taking battery and rebooting the phone - it still showed the Sim Profile: error
And now after reinstalling 4.2, that same un-used sim card shows Sim Card is rejected, which never showed that previously when I was on the same build before experimenting with this current 4.5 release.
So I believe it is safe to assume that the non-active sim card is damaged now as those error were not there (or ever there even with previous 4.2 OSes) about Sim profile error or Sim rejected.
Seriously What is going on here? How come these SIM cards are being damaged...and no root cause is found - This is literally quite scary, and I went back to 4.2 for now...luckily my T-mobile Sim card didn't get hosed - as that is the only phone service I have...
And these 4.5 OS are released by the carriers (so they are official builds), but then why are these official builds causing SIM Damage..
This officially makes me not touch 4.5 till I have 100% confirmation that my sim card will not get damaged (as its the same sim card I have used since 2003, got too many important numbers stored on it, and yes they are backed up already).

nuerotic, I'll post this again here. This was my experience:
After my SIM got knocked out, I pulled the battery and rebooted. After a few minutes, same thing, read SOS no sim card found. I reverted back to .52 and after pushing three or four buttons, same error came up. I wiped my phone with Jbuilder and then reinstalled .52. Phone is fine now. SIM works and has all night (so far around 9 hours). As I said above, this is my first time dealing with this problem, but just wanted to post that there doesn't appear to be any lasting "damage."

I highly doubt the OS did that to your SIM. Could have, but it is impossible to prove or know for certain now, that it is working.
At least, it was not the same issue as the other other user who had their SIM friend. Theirs was completely unusable and unsaveable. Two different situations.

I put 4.5 firmware on my T mobile 8120. The os was from Rogers and it worked fine for 4 days. Now it is rejecting my sim card. T-mobile Customer Service can't tell me why. They are baffled. They could only tell me to replace the card.

The 4.5.0.37 OS (that Rogers offered) did fry sim cards. However, the later versions do not.

You have no more proof that the OS didn't do that to my card than I have for the my side.
The OS upgrade was the only change. .52 has been working fine since I wiped my phone.
It could have been a number of things, yes you are right. It could have been a real problem with the network itself and just coincidence that it occurred after I upgraded. The problem came minutes after the update. I just made a logical conclusion. As in science, you change on variable and compare the result to your control. I'm not an idiot (or a luddite).
But I hope you are right; that it is not the OS. And that I can update to future OS' without worry of knocking off my SIM.

Since thousands of people have likely done this upgrade already and you are the only person with this issue, logic says it's probably not the issue. Even when .37 WAS frying sim cards it took about 3-5 days. It didn't happen right away.

I've previously stated the proof. There is no issue.
You SIM card is not dead, not fried, not wacky.

Small warning here, I had .55 on my device for about a week and in the middle of being powered on it rejected my sim card. I was using it to send emails and 5 minutes later when I checked it had Sim Card Rejected on the display.
After I got a new sim card the next day from the store, I went to .69 and have had no problems since upgrading.

There were many fried sim cards on .37 and I have heard of a very small handful on versions above .37. I've heard of none on .69.

Not sure how much truth there is to this, but in talking with a T-Mobile support person the other day, she told me that the issue stems from the MyFaves software putting too much strain on the SIM card. She advised to stay away from ANY beta OS's, just for that one reason. Now, the only way to test that would be to remove the MyFaves software, and then update, but I'm not ballsy enough....
