G'Day,
Yep. tried a bunch of things, and it definately doesn't work with 1.5, so I installed 1.4.2_08 (works fine), but the problem is that I can't get it to work when jdk1.5 is installed at all. I even tried installing 1.4.2 and 1.5 in different orders, and still no luck. I tried setting path and other variables, even in ide.bat (maybe someone could try wrapping rapc ??).

So if anyone has information about where the javac is set, or how it figures it out, that would be appreciated.

(oh yeah, I meant to try one thing: installed jdk1.4.2_08, and then jdk 1.5, but then copy the files for jdk1.5 elsewhere and then uninstall). As long as you don't need 1.5 in your browser, that should work.)

I got a pointer from keith on the blackberry forums:

Thanks for the pointer Keith...
I did this, and it works
install jdk 1.4.2_08, install jdk 1.5
change
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/JavaSoft/Java Development Kit

change "CurrentVersion" from 1.5 to 1.4

not pretty, but it worked for me.

Default An easier way to use JDK 1.5 with the JDE

Rather than installing JDK 1.4, there is a much simpler way.

Simply create a file called javac.bat with the following contents and put it your path somewhere before javac.exe:

@javac.exe -source 1.3 %*

This adds the arguments needed to allow the compiler to target v1.1 of the VM.
