I read this whole thread and I must be stupid. I'm getting my pearl on Tuesday or Weds and I am still confused. I went on the Verizon site and looked at the plans and the choices are unlimited text and Pictures, and then I can opt for the various high price plans.

I don't send text messages (I'm not 14) and am still capable of calling people when I need to speak withe them. If I have nothing to say, I don't call them. This isn't to offend the textors (is there such a term) but I need a plan that gives me unlimited Emails and internet, some picture sending and maybe 11 text messages a year. I use the phone primarily for business and some personal E-mails.

Any recommendations out there in Blackberry land? Thanks for our help!

Grab a nationwide plan for your minutes and then grab the 29.99 unlimited web & email. Text Messages and Picture Messages are .20c and 45c or something in that range (without a text plan). For the few youll be sending each year, theres no need to get a text plan.

Convenient enough.....the "Blackberry Data Plan" with Verizon is UNLIMITED.....They don't offer a LIMITED data plan.So basically all you need is a plan with say aboot 500 min. or so should do you good. Because you have free nights and weekends.

We do have a limited plan. It is $24.99 for 10MB BES. In Jamesters case though the $29.99 unlimited BIS is the best option.

I agree w/ "Demon" (whom BTW is very helpful in making VZW decisions) w/ my Treo I had the the data plan for 44.99 w/ 2000 txt. But w/ my BB I have the BIS 29.99 unlmtd. but my txting I had to pay extra for. So "Jamester" should work out well $29.99 + $10 for 500 txt msgs, Correct "Demon"?

There is also an even smaller text package that is available for 250 messages and is $5.

Get just the BB data/voice and let them charge you ala carte for txt/pix. It's about .15 for every txt you send and receive, more for pix (but you can email those too). If you have other BB pals you should use the BB Messenger (free) to txt/pix. It's way faster than standard pix messaging. (btw I bet you don't have kids with cellphones, do you?).

Has there always been a limited plan? When the rep. signed me up for my service she mentioned there was only a unlimited data plan............shyster or no shyster unlimited is what I wanted.

It has always been there. Most reps don't position it to customers because of the $29.99 Email and Web plan being a better value. This plan wasn't always around and it used to just be the $24.99 10MB or the $44.99 unlimited.

Is it correct that the Unlimited plan,$99 does not include data and to add data it'll cost an additional 39.99?

Nextel has Unlimited plan for $99 and it includes data, will Verizon ever come online with something similar?

Thanks,
Bold Traveler

That is partially correct. For unlimited voice and data it is $129.99.

Default question

I am about to get a Blackberry Curve with Verizon. I'm trying to figure out the monthly cost because of a limited budget. I send text alot and talk alot but mostly with Verizon customers. So I only need around 450 minutes and the small text plan. What are my options? I see the email and text plan for 99.99. Would I have to get this or can I get the 79.99 plan with $5 messaging plan and then add 29.99 web and email plan?

I would recommend the 450 minute package for $39.99 plus the $29.99 email and web for Blackberry data plan and the $5 250 message plan.

Default Help me find the right plan

Demon,

I really am impressed with your knowledge of blackberrys and their plans. I need your help to find the right (cheapest) plan possible for me.

Here is what I want. The 450 anytime minutes (39.99) + unlimited email and browser usage (29.99) and I want texts. I text a lot and currently have a MotoKrzr phone with the unlimited in messages with 500 additional for 10 dollars a month. Does blackberry have a similar plan? Or is this 500 messages for 10 dollars all you get total even if you're texting other VZW users. Also does this plan include picture messages, although I know i can simply email these.

Also I'm very intrigued by this blackberry messenger application. Is this basically like instant messenging for your blackberry? And can you only do it with people who have balckberrys. 2 more questions for now. First, can you use features like google talk on the blackberry. Second, how much more would it cost to have VZW navigator unlimited use. I wish verizon allowed free GPS like ATT.

I lied one more question. What do you know about the STORM and is it going to be that much more amazing than the curve.

Thanks so much for the info.

Jon

As far as sync, Dawg is correct, BIS does not sync contacts, calender, etc.

I wish you were my rep. The brainiac who signed me up in January put the BES on without consulting with me on what type of usage I would incur. I'm not a business, and have been paying that for almost a year. I'm on hold right now with a supervisor. I'm asking for a refund .. she will only give me two months' worth of a refund. Nice. NOT.
