Welcome to the BBForums.

You don't.

Just don't push on it when you place the device in the holster if that is when it is happening.

The Mute button puts your device in vibrate? It puts mine in Standby if I press and hold it. Just pressing it either takes it out of Standby or does nothing at all. That is, unless I'm on a call, then it mutes/unmutes the phone.

Quick question, does the mute button only work to switch it to Vibrate when the phone is locked? I press the Mute button when its on the home screen and nothing happens. Everything else its meant to do works such as muting a call coming in.

DonJose, when on the homescreen of the Storm, pressing the Mute button at the top left edge of the device should place your device is a keylock mode with the owner screen appearing.

As far as I know, the Mute button never places the device in vibrate--that's why I asked the OP about it.

Currently my mute button has 1 function and that's to mute the phone when in a call...I guess I need an updated OS like all you guys so I can get the MUTE/VIBRATE feature. Which OS does that?

im running .122 however when phone (9530) is in a holster with sleeper function and you press mute button for about 2-3 (seconds top right button) it will switch between profiles from current profile to vibrate, hold it again and it will switch back to whatever profile you were using. i use loud so mine will switch between loud and vibrate. it is actually a neat feature its just that i hit it all the time and want to turn it off. as for switching profiles while phone is locked i have read threads of people doing this but just sat here and tried it with no luck. could only get mine to do it when placing into holster.

My Storm 9500 was switching to Vibrate before I installed .141 on it. Before I had .78 and I was always annoyed that it presses too easy. When I keep my phone in the pocket (and in holster of course) and I sit on a chair and get up, it's very likely that I will put it on Vibrate. It's kinda annoying.

I think people may be talking about different buttons, there are two on the top of the Storm; one that engages the keypad/touchscreen 'Lock' and the other that functions as a 'Mute' during calls.

The one in the top right which works as a Mute during calls, switches to Vibrate if you push it 2-3 seconds when you're not in a call. I dunno if this is a bug or if its supposed to do that.

On .148, the mute button does not toggle to vibrate mode.

What they're talking about is the upper right mute/silent button on the blackberry storm which will only work when the phone is in a holster with the sleep magnet. Once in the holster and in sleep mode, if this button is pressed and held for a few seconds, it will silent the ring. It can be toggled back by pushing and holding it again. It's a pain because a lot of times you won't know it's happened and might miss calls. It happens to me a lot when I wear it on my hip and the seatbelt pushes it. I don't know of any fix or way to disable it, wish there was.

There is. Update to 148. This was a bug in earlier releases that I actually thought was a feature. This has been "fixed" in 148 so that the button no longer toggles between modes when in the holster in Sleep Mode. I liked having this bug since it was very convenient to reach down and hold the button for 3 seconds as I walk into a meeting. I wasn't required to take my phone out to change modes. Wish they would put this bug back into future releases with a menu option to enable/disable the function.
