4g Blackberry?
Please Login to Remove!
Just wondering if there's any talk for introducing a 4G blackberry for vzw in 2010. I currently have a tour, and will be looking for a new phone around this time next year. I want to jump on the touchscreen craze, so my 2 options will probably be the Storm 3 and Droid 2 (if they are out by then).
Also, is there any indication that RIM will take the consumer market, as opposed to the business market, more seriously. I like my Tour, but I also realize that it doesn't necessarily suit my needs as a non business phone. Basically I'm asking if they plan on improving appworld, making developing more open to 3rd parties etc.

4G network technology has arrived in Oslo and Stockholm thanks to wireless carrier TeliaSonera.
As of Tuesday, people in Norway and Sweden will be able to buy a mobile dongle that supports the long-term evolution (LTE) of 4G.
The technology can deliver speeds of up to 100 megabits per second–ten times faster that its 3G predecessor.

We know what 4g is. The op asked if there would be a berry on 4g...
I doubt that there will be one for some time, given that 3g works just fine on blackberries...

Lets wait until 4G gets just a tad more mainstream. Right now T-Mobile's AWS is about a hundred times more common then 4G, and AWS is still a joke. Think 2012 or so before RIM even considers this.

Anyone think sooner than 12 for 4G now? Sprint has it - anyone else gonna get it before 12? Think other carriers having it will speed up RIM?

Yes. The December date was indeed 2009 since it has not come around in 2010, and will not for another 5+ months. This was still a topic on the first page in this forum though.
Did you have anything else to add? Or just state the topic unrelated obvious?

just a quick note,,, looked into 9650 & evo yesterday,,, the availability of 4g for sprint is very limited & will not be available in the north jersey area for @ least 6 months, maybe longer,,, so buying a 4g, if it isn't in your area, is a waste of $$$,,, based on sprints' site it's only available in corn country...

Was wondering myself when BB would attack 4G when I saw all the press for the EVO being sold out.
I am far from an expert, but I think BB should fix their browser first then develop a 4G phone.

Why is WiMax not 4G?
4G = 4th Generation, right? WiMax is another generation after 3G, correct? Therefore it would be 4G. I know you're probably referring to 4G as LTE, which is 4G as well. WiMax is 4G, just a different form of it.

Wimax is more of a WISP (wireless internet service provider)
Wimax was originaly designed as a wisp, not for mobile devices, but since clearwire mostly destroyed the rep of wimax, now we see it in a mobile device. part of comcast2go and other services too.
Think of it this way, do we see 3G on anything besides data cards and cell phones? Thats how i refer to 3G 4G etc, i know it doesnt make sense haha

Both LTE and Wimax are considered to be true 4G, the only people that tend to disagree on that point are the ones rolling out networks using LTE which is technically more advanced but has no availability yet.
As far as a 4g blackberry, I bet we are a year away from seeing one, in general they need less bandwidth anyway so don't need to rush to release one not to mention the obvious point that they never rush to release stuff.

Mobile wimax is a wisp wholesaled out for other uses. It is not 4G. It has 4G speeds yes, but it is not a mobile 4G like how people refer to 3G and edge etc
Wimax is a stopgap till LTE
