Default OS: 9700 5.0.0.1022/5.0.0.593 (EastAsia + English)

Please Login to Remove!

BlackBerry Handheld Software v5.0.0.1022 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 5.0.0.1022
Consisting of:

* Applications: 5.0.0.593
* Software Platform: 5.1.0.147
* File name: 9700jEastAsia_PBr5.0.0_rel1022_PL5.1.0.147_A5.0.0. 593_CSL_Limited_customers.exe
* File size: 123.58MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...B42B2DBB8F27B6

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 9700:

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml." Vista/Win7 users: In the apploader folder, simply click on "Compatibility files" to see the actual Vendor.xml file. Once you've got that - simply delete the vendor.xml file there (even if you've deleted or think you've deleted it in the folder previously) and voila, it will allow you to update to the newly installed OS!
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a black "BlackBerry" screen with a status bar for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again, and it should load the OS to the device.

For the previous OS, see this link: http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...ilanguage.html

Yes, this version is very stable. I've been using as a base for all my hybrids.

I cant get this version to load...(I have installed 10-12 updates, so I'm not that new at this)....has anyone else had this issue?

In the past, I have always used the apploader or DM to perform OS updates.
I'm coming from .586 and prefer to update through DM (on BES and it avoids having to re-do the Enterprise Activation).
After installing on the PC, and running the DM, I plug in my 9700 and it does not recognize an update...so then I delete the vendor file and run the loader.exe app and it only list my 3rd party apps and lists "none" as what is action to be performed.
Thanks!

With these new releases you don't have to reactivate BES, it's done automatically and starts by itself after rebooting regardless of DM or Apploader.

Make sure you have uninstalled all previous BB OS's from your PC before installing this new release.

Thanks for the headsup about the BES reactivation...
I did have about 5 previous OS still installed ... so, I uninstalled all of them and reinstalled this one, but no luck.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks again!

What do you mean by above?
Isn't the current OS wiped off when upgrading to new version automatically? Or is there another step?

I've had no problem with BBMaps on this version.

As posted by others, this is the best OS for the 9700 to date. I've been running it for a couple of weeks now.

John,

I'm not sure when the problem started and I haven't found many others who are having a similar issue. I only noticed it because the maps in profiles in the Twitter for BB app weren't working. I tried removing Twitter for BB but that didn't have any effect.

I see a "S Java Exception - OutofMemoryError" in the event log if I run bbmaps. There's a thread in the GPS & Mapping forum - http://www.blackberryforums.com/gps-...ml#post1591008 where at least one other person is having issues with the maps not displaying.

Regards,
SMF

Read the steps at the top of this thread and pay particular attention to the "compatibility files".

The old OS is wiped from your BB and the new one is installed when you do the upgrade... but you can have multiple OS files installed on your PC. It's easier/best if you remove (uninstall) the old one before loading the new one on your PC.
