Been trying to fix a Curve for 2 days now... any suggestions?
Please Login to Remove!
Hey all,
I've been searching forums and the internet for many hours and have tried every trick I've come across, but so far no luck.
I've got a Curve that won't boot up. After about 10 seconds of the white screen with the hourglass, I get an error saying "Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointerException", then "App Error 200". Won't boot to the OS.
I've ALREADY tried using the app updater in DM with and without the battery, javaloader.exe with and w/o battery, JL_Cmdr with and w/o, BBSAK with and w/o. The problem is I can't get the computer to recognize the BB.
It seems like in all of the other posts I've read people have gotten their computer to recognize it long enough for it to be wiped and reload the OS. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've tried it on two different computers.
I'm wondering if someone has any other tips or tricks to get it going again. Or possibly if anyone that's fixed this before can give me advice on how they got it to work.
I would really appreciate any kind of help on this!

Welcome to the forums.
I would first suggest connecting the USB directly the a rear USB port. Not a hub, front port, monitor port, etc.
Also, follow these steps:
What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ
Be patient, it could take multiple attempts before it connects.

Thank you for the welcome and the reply.
I came across those instructions yesterday and have been trying that, I can't seem to get the USB: option to come up. I tried it on two different laptops for a total of probably 20 minutes. I'm trying it again right now.
Is this something you've tried yourself? Do you know if the 'detect communication port' box is supposed to be greyed out?

I have done this step a few times. I did have one device that was dead and couldn't be recovered. An old 8830.

At what point would you rule it dead?
In my mind, if the software starts to boot up but errors out I wouldn't call that dead, but maybe I'm looking at it the wrong way.
I'm an I.T. guy at a company that just started working with Blackberrys and the way my mind works, if the hardware is fine there has to be some way to fix the software. As far as I can tell the hardware is perfect. The user told me that something happened during a cable sync and it crashed, but everything was working normally before that. The phone still recognizes the charger and sync cable.

Hmm.. well thanks for your input, this is just a weird one.
If you (or anyone) come up with any other ideas I'd love to know.

I did try one different cable. Also plugged in a camera with the same cable as a test and that worked. Phone recognizes the cable being plugged into it, but computer doesn't recognize the phone.

You said laptops.
Were these plugged into the mains when trying or just running off the battery?

Will dm allow you to input a pin number, and, do you know it?

I experienced this problem yesterday while upgrading my OS. loader.exe and the DM would not see it.
What I did was navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers and run the .exe file.
Running loader.exe after, the device was recognized. Hope this works for you too.

The correct folder, .exe for BBDevMgr.
Although DM starts with Device Manager, running it first could help.

Nope, that sure looks like the right folder to me. XP sp3, Vista has far too many issues to be worth dealing with.

Loader.exe is NOT in that folder. It is in the apploader folder.
Right? Loader.exe ALWAYS works.
