Default Starts on speakerphone?

My new Curve answers every call on speakerphone for the first few seconds then reverts to the internal speaker. Very loud and annoying. Has anyone else had this problem? I tried to search forums but the security string wouldn't let me, I apologize if this has been covered.

do you have an 8350i? if so go into direct connect options, turn the speaker off, save, battery pull, go back and turn speaker back on, save.

I have an 8310 and I will try those steps if I can but I think it is some kind of defect. Thanks.

This may also be a firmware issue. Check to see if you have the latest version, and if not upgrade it. I recall the Curve having the same issue a while back and one of the firmware upgrades fixed it.

I hate to sound ignorant but what is firmware as opposed to software? It is a new phone (30 days or so) and has the latest software. I talk to the ATT store and they couldn't offer any advice and said they have never heard of it happening before. Sorry for the delay, I've been traveling. thanks all.

My 8310 does this too. Quite randomly though, most of the time it works as it should. However, every once in a while, it will answer with speaker phone first and then switch to the ear piece. I've just been living with it. I'll try the firmware upgrade you guys suggested.

I'm currently on 4.5.0.81

Firmware = OS version

I have a Verizon 8330 with OS 4.5.0.77 and I do not have this issue. Looks like you may have another carrier version, maybe Sprint?

Choose the sticky at the top of this forum that goes with your model phone, to upgrade the firmware.

I had the same problem until I upgraded the firmware per the step-by-step instructions in that post.
