I used to update my OS all the time to leaked versions. As a 9700 user and someone who needs their phone for contacts and calender it would kill me if my BB acted funny. This is the reason I"m waiting for an official release. So far I can't seem to get Rogers to committ to a date on the OS 6. Anyone else had luck?

I am running official OS5 and I have the same problem but rarely. When I open and close an e-mail quickly, it leaves it as unread. It is a connection/sync problem with BES I believe, when it is not sure, it just prefers to keep it as unread.

I am really tempted to upgrade since my OS5 is also acting up, for example keeping old e-mails beyond 30 days I set it to keep (now it is at 4 month mark!)

Updated my 9700 to OS6 three days ago using Matrix Leader download site and instructions. So far I have had no problems. The device operates perfectly. It is somewhat faster and appears to be loaded with lots of added features.
Thank you Matrix.

Thumbs up Re: Update my Blackberry 9700 to OS6?

I updated 3 weeks ago and have nothing but great things to say about the OS6. I have only came across one issue so far and that it was saying my SIM card was invalid. Went to Bell store and they swapped it out and so far all is good.

It really isn't hard...
So what ever happened to the old BB forum rule about not posting the links on where to download unofficial leaked OS's? Did I miss the memo?

I've had 4 Beta OS 6 versions and the current is 418. This version was great for the first 5-7 days, then I had to start doing regular battery pulls. The flash memory bleeds slowly and the Ram - quickly.

That said, aside from the occasional frustration, I love it. Since the official 9650/6.0.0.415 release thru Sprint and the 9330 version as well, I doubt we will have to wait long for an official 9700 release from a carrier.

TBH, I am sick to death of Java. It's totally useless. It doesn't have the first idea how to release unused memory. And memory booster apps get less and less effective at releasing memory as the day wears on.... So, I look forward to a working version of 6 with longsuffering patience!

Unless OS6 has Wifi (Adhoc or AP) tether for my new eLocity 7" android tablet, I've no really need for it.

The RIM browser shuts down regularly, on pages I've read for a few years on Pearls and Bolds. <SMILE> That's annoying.

But I'm still sticking with OS6, looking forward to an official release.

Best.

You do realize that 3rd party apps have to be written for the new OS right? Its like going from Windows 98 to Windows XP, not all windows 98 applications worked on Windows XP, so you had to bug the developer to make it compatible.

I use the .344 OS 6 on my BB and my 3rd party apps which I downloaded from the BB App World work fine, I think it's just human error on your part!

I'd wait until the official OS. There are some rather weird bugs that people are reporting and I'd be pretty irked if the phone I depend on acted funny. I'd buy an iPhone if I wanted the latest and greatest, but I wouldn't trade reliability for anything.

OS 6.0.0.418 for the BB 9700 is the latest leak and works exceptionally well for me and can be found online. Back up your phone first using the DM. Use BBSAK app to save my third party apps and reinstall after updating the OS.

NOTE: Be sure to do a complete Backup before you begin. Do a complete wipe of phone before you begin. You may need to reload some of your apps from Backup. This is a proven method to get the latest OS available form Blackberry.
Remember this is an unofficial OS use at your own risk. No Official Support

*Do not attempt this if you do not have prior experience with beta releases*

TIPS TO INSTALLATION OF: OS 6.0 on BB 9700

1. Remove all other OS programs from your computer using Control Panel.
2. Install OS 6.0 from:
http://hotfile.com/dl799701001/bc85a...6_334.exe.html.
3. On computer go to C: Program files, then Common files, then Research In Motion,Then Apploader and remove Vendor.xml file.
4. Go back to Research In Motion then shared, then loader files, then Select new OS that was just downloaded.
5. Go back to Java file, then scroll down and remove:

I am using OS6 on my 9700 which is connected to Virgin Mobile Canada (aka Bell's network), I don't have any issues.
