Default Latest OS: 9700 5.0.0.1607/5.0.0.979 (Multilanguage)

Quite an improvement with the Latest OS: 9700 5.0.0.1607/5.0.0.979! My new bold 9700 is definitely faster in a number of areas, Internet Browsing, Application loading and application use, switching between screens. Battery life is slightly improved (it was already great). I agree with other folks who are using it that this update appears to maintain a 3G signal much better than the original OS that I purchased the 9700 with.

Go for it!

Stable UMA has more to do with the router it's connected to than the device or the OS. UMA has been quite stable since the 8320 first came out. Issues are usually router issues.

I agree. I've noticed that I am not plugging my phone into the charger every night. Every other night I have to hook it into the charger so I'm happy with that.

3G seems to still behave oddly but is better than it was before.

Just a question ,been looking at the screen shots for downloading new OS , and it mentions that my phone will "need to be wirelessly activated and registered with your carrier after the new OS is installed" , in my case i will be putting my Pay as you go Sim card from my old Nokia , will this be a problem? , i only use my home wireless network for surfing or hot spots

I have had the phone unlocked from it's original vendor

You won't have to do anything. Update away.

I've noticed changes in voice dialing. For example, the playback specifies the suffix "1" after a number as in "John Smith Mobile 1" as if there might be a "2." And the voice is different. I've had some problems with her dialing incorrect selections.

Thanks, I've been on 5.0.0.656 for so long waiting for a worthy upgrade that didn't break apps I thought I'd never see another one.

I just installed and all seems good on TMO-9700. I don't know what takes longer, re-authorizing all my 3rd party apps or the actual OS upgrade itself. Anyway, Sling player mobile, tether bluetooth, SIRUSXM and Fixmo all seem to work fine on this version so I'll be keeping it.

My proveder its TMO, Which OS do I want to D/L? do I want the ATT or the UK version. Sounds like a real stupid but I would rather ask, instead of having a dead BB.

Doesn't matter. The only difference is included languages.

Small problem to report with this update. I wiped my 9700. Did a fresh install. Installed all my back up third party apps from my temp file. Re instilled my personal data from my backup. Ready to go. One problem all my email drafts (if I am on an internet page I'll hit send link then save draft to come back to it later) have multiplied by factor of 10. Now I have 40000 messages and 29mb of space. I cannot delete them even if I send them as an email. The extra messages will show sent and I receive one email but I can't delete them. I can delete other messages even the ones I receive from the group but not the extra messages. I think I am going to brick this thing again tomorrow and try a reinstall. Any ideas?

UsuaLly "save draft" means there are no email service books. Just go to your Email Setup and resend your service books.

Does anyone know if this OS contains East Asian support?

I get confused with the Multilanguage, All Language, etc. designations that are used.

Hi just got this reply to my question from a different forum . "I hope you've had your question answered. If not, I will answer it for you. Your phone will not work like you want it to. With a BlackBerry, you must have a data plan for any data to work, including WiFi. The reason is that all of the data on a BlackBerry goes through RIM's servers and is compressed and then decompressed. Depending on what carrier you have, you won't even be able to have a data plan with pay-as-you-go for your BB. Without a BB plan, all you'll be able to do is make phone calls and text." Is he correct?
