I have had a Curve for a little over 2 years and just loved the keyboard. I replaced the old trusty Curve with a Bold2 about 2 months ago and have still had trouble getting used to the completely different keyboard. Once in a while, I'll fire up the old Curve and try to type something and it just seems so much easier. It's almost like I don't even need to think about it. Is there some sort of technique I need to learn here that I'm not familiar with here? I type on the Bold2 quite a bit during the day and still just don't feel comfortable doing it (unlike what my experience was with the original Curve).

Yet, when I read reviews here about people's impression with the Bold2, the response is either "I love this!!" or "it took a little getting used to but now it's just wonderful"... So this tells me that either my hands are mis-shapen and just were genetically meant to use the Curve's raised keyboard buttons or I'm doing something wrong!!

Any ideas?

As it stands, I've been thinking about getting a Seido Innocase 360 since it provides a keyboard cover that looks like it has raised buttons for the keys but I'm not sure it will be any better...

It is definitely an adjustment, I agree. I switched from a curve about a week ago and the keyboard is probably the hardest part to get used to. I make more typing errors on the Bold2, but I think that will eventually get better. Overall love the phone.

It was a short adjustment for me. I "cracked the code" when I figured out that the 9700 keyboard is designed for specifically left and right hand placement. If you look at the keys you can see they slope towards center, the left hand keys slope from left to right and the right hand keys slope from right to left. This is especially importantto keep in mind for one handed typing. Conversely the 83xx keys are flat so it makes no difference. Once I realized this, I mentally made sure my thumbs were aligned properly and typed slightly towards center and my typing rate jumped quickly.

I've had 9700 for 7 weeks and still cannot type as fast as on an 8320. I timed myself:

8320: 30 WPM
9700: 25 WPM

I tried to understand what Mako5 wrote but didn't get it as I played around with my 9700.

I don't tend to type more than around 300 words per week, so it's not like I get a ton of practice. But I would prefer to at least get up to 30 WPM.

When I try to go faster, I hit double keys once every 15 or so keystrokes.

i recently upg from curve to the bold too. took me a few days to get used to the keyboard being small. i notice i am misspelling my words due to fact that i am hitting surrounding keys in error. also, first few days i noticed that my hand was achy from the way i was holding it and typing on it. dont know if the slanting of the keys add to the problems... but i am getting used to it. so will u.

I went from the old Curve to the Bold 2 also.

It took me a week or two to get comfortable using the Bold 2. I was kicking and screaming about how crappy the keyboard is and was on the brink of returning it but everything else about the phone I loved.

The spaced out keys on the Curve definitely made it a lot easier to type. The keyboard on the Bold 2 seems too cramped and small. Sometimes I have to type with my nails or I'll fat finger a bunch of keys.

2 months later... and I'm definitely not in love with this keyboard but it's no longer that big of a deal to me and I'll live with it.

Ditto for me (Curve to 9700) and not at all used to the kb. )I had to change my password on the device because I suddenly had trouble typing on it.

i went from curve to 8900. No adjustment, basically same keyboard. Had the 8900 for about 9 months and got the 9700.

And for some strange reason, absolutely no adjustment either! Not even on the trackpad (gosh that thing is great).

I say its strange, cause I could never type on the 8800, or the bold 9000, those felt so strange. Tried the tour, and the tour ain't so bad, it does feel different from the curve but I wouldn't say major adjustment. I think how the shape of the devices and how they fit into your hand plays a major part.

the 83xx def had the best keyboard i never got use to the 8900 keyboard i think the 9700 keyboard is better than 8900 but not as good as the 83xx but then again i havent had the 9700 long enough to get use to it. To me my initial observation is the 9700 keyboard is too hard to press (might be because it is new, i hope)

I upgraded from my 8900 to the 9700 about a week ago and still trying to get used to the 9700 keyboard. I used an 8320 and 8900 combined for about 2 years

I agree that after being on an 8320 for two years and going to the 9700 keyboard was a huge adjustment. 9700 keyboard is stiffer so I need to press harder and and my thumbs have to precisely hit the keys just right or i hit the wrong key. I'm better at banging out messages on 9700 now after having it for 2 months but still not as proficient as being on the curve

The Bold 9000 keyboard was the best for those with large hands. I would rate the 8900 Curve 2nd, and the 9700 last of the three that I have used over the last year.
