Default LCS, BES and OCWA

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,
We are currently testing BES with LCS in our test environment. At the moment we have the LCS clients connecting over TLS and TCP without any problem.

My question is, when we start testing from the bes devices do we need to have OCWA installed and configured also ?? everything we can tell has been installed on the BES server but we havent installed OCWA.

I cant really find a definitive answer as to whether or not this is required for Blackberry or not, the users will just have the standard LCS clients pushed to their devices.

Thanks in advance.

There used to be 2 options available.

LCS/Windows Messenger
LCS/Office Communicator

The Windows Messenger Integration used a direct connection to the LCS Server via TCP or TLS through the RTC protocol.

Going forward Microsoft changed the method of communicating to LCS and required a CWA Server configured and enabled with Ajax for Office Communicator functionality.

I think that Service Pack 5 was the last service pack to include the Windows Messenger Integration Option. Service Pack 6 removed it, but added Office Communicator Server 2007 support.

There is also seperate Enterprise Messenger clients for the BlackBerry depending on the integration you choose.

In regards to SP6, is that verified? We have LCS 2005 without a CWA Server, and are using the LCS/Windows Messenger configuration with 4.1SP5, and Enterprise Messenger 1.1.23 on the handhelds. Are you saying that the LCS/Windows Messenger configuration is no longer available with 4.1SP6?

I just installed BES 4.1.6 for Exchange today, and it had the LCS/Windows Messenger option, which I also installed b/c we don't have a CWA server and require TLS to connect. Getting this working with OCS 2007 is another story, but the LCS/WM config is still included.

Here's a screenshot of the available collaboration service options with 4.1.6.

Thanks for the reply. We'll probably want to deploy Communicator Web Access here soon, in anticipation of the support being removed.

Is AJAX installed on the LCS by default? If not how is it added?

Thanks
