Those are the modules from the java folder that are loaded to your device.

You can't run apps from the SD card.

Hey JC (or anyone else really)... I have an odd question.
I deleted my little icon on my desktop for my OS, and I downloaded it again.

I'm trying to put everything back to stock because I'm shipping this phone back and don't want to take any chances...
To get it so it doesn't keep the same edited Blackberry.alx file (which it did) can I just delete the whole ResearchInMotion folder from my common files and run the .exe again? Or will this just mess things up more?

uninstall the os from Add / Remove programs and then reinstall.

Honestly though, you won't have any issues returning it as is ... as long as it functions.

Mmk thank you. That was my next guess lol.

I know that there's like a 99.99% chance that they wont notice..
But stranger things HAVE happened. They weren't going to replace my Razr on verizon because I had edited firmware... The guy at the store was nice though and said "Go home fix it, come back, I didn't see it" so I did get it replaced... But like I said, I'd rather be safe than charged $300 for the phone (that's their fee if it's "damaged")

And it seems to have done the trick, thank you

... mental note for next time. Make a backup copy of BlackBerry.alx (its what I do every time as I sometimes upgrade other peoples HHs on my machine).

Lol, I had had that mental note.. but at the time I was like.. Nahhh I'll never need it again!

Goes to show that when you say that, you're usually not right :P

I even decided with the new phone just because I can to install the 4.2.1.109 instead of 108 :P hhehehehe

-edit-
It pretty much told me it doesn't want a rogers OS... haha yay for that 507 error...
Seems like a session with jl_cmdr is in order!

If you have 507 already, then JL_Cmder won't do any good. Just reload the OS again.

How can I tell how much memory I have free'd up?

And it's not been said (I hope) but after doing all the steps, updating, and unplugging...my phone was at the "hour glass" screen for about 15 minutes. I thought I broke it, then it finally turned on and all is well. So for the newbies (such as myself), give it at least 15-20 minutes after the process before getting worried.

Thanks for such a great "how to" JC!!

Followed all of the step and no problems.. freed up to about 30mb..

1 question though.. after I followed all of the step.. I had to re-activate my BES and had to make some "setup" changes...

In the Application loader I did say to back-up... did this cause it?
Or will I need to re-activate my BES everything I play around with this?

Thanks again!!

Red face

John,

I just got my 8830 last week and it seems as though Verizon is keeping the additional themes from being installed into their 8830. I did everything (at least I think so and did them several times) listed and did free up space, but no additional themes were transferred. The only themes listed were the default and the Verizon Zen themes.

In trying to figure out what is happening, I renamed the VZ zen them to a bogus file name, then I renamed the TMO 100 theme (net_rim_theme_100_320x240_b.cod ) to the original VZ theme (net_rim_theme_105_zen_320x240_b.cod) and ran apploader again, this time it said there were changes available and updated the BB. The VZ theme was gone and the new TMO theme was available. When I looked at the modules that were going to be updated the TMO file name was listed instead of the VX name. This seems to be the only way I can get anything different loaded.

Was anyone else with the VZ 8830 able to get any additional themes loaded the way they were expected to be loaded?

Thanks

I tried with bot 4.2 & 4.3 desktop software and used the Bell OS software that is listed elsewhere in the forums.

Default VZW 8830 What else can I do to free up memory

John, thanks for your helpful guide. I am at the point however that I am wondering what else I can do beyond whats laid out in your guide. I don't necessarily wan't to remove VAD but I am running about 15mb free with the apps I have installed, I would like a few more MB to be safe. Do you or anyone else have any suggestions of other COD's to delete. Figure I have done everything on the guide besides delete VAD.

Two more questions. 1) Is there a way to add folder icons without having the media cod? 2) If I delete the qualcomm tones cod is there a resource online that has those tones so that I can put them on my sd card?

Install the OS on to your computer again. That will fix that error message.
