Default Noob needs help!

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all! So i just got my 8100 today, and to my dismay, I cant get it hooked to my PC. The PC recognizes it as "Blackberry Smartphone" but keeps asking me to put in the CD that came with it. (The CD is in) And after looking it cant find whatever its looking for. Also, If i try to use the desktop software, it wont find my BB, nor can i connect via bluetooth. Any suggestions? Ive tried Updating to the newest desktop vers. no change.

:(

Welcome to the BBForums.

If you have loaded the Desktop Manager to the PC, connect your BB via a USB cable DIRECT to the PC, not through a USB hub, but direct to the PC USB ports. if it is still not recognizing your BB--remove from the USB. Reboot BOTH the PC and the BB (remove the battery on the BB, hold 30 seconds and replace to reboot), then try the connection again.

Is Desktop Manager actually installed to your PC?

The user IS asking a question...

@bp3dots -- what version of Desktop Manager are you using?
And, oOn what version of Windows?

I would recommend you download and install Desktop Manager ver 4.2, Service Pack 2, withOUT the Media Manager.

If loading to a Vista machine, you may need to load it with Administrator rights enabled on your Vista PC.

As J said, download the latest version of DM. You can get it from the AT&T site. Please, others, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think if you go to www.cingular.com/blackberry there will be an option near the bottom for downloading software.

Im using XP pro, SP2.. tried the 4.3 DM and theone that comes on the disc with the BB, DL'ing 4.2 now to see if that works. Is there anywhere to download the actual drivers for the handset? or is it just bundled in the software?

Ok i dont think its the DM. I cant even get my pc to recognize it as a BB. It just comes up with the "Found new hardware: RIM Composite device, please insert disc..."

But even with the disc in it wont find the driver.

Boo.
