This was a first for me and, all in all, it went pretty well. It DID address the calendar alerts issue. I'd initially deleted the CICAL entries per RIM as a workaround and my timed calendar alerts did function. But my all-day event alerts did not. According to RIM it was part and parcel of the same issue and the workaround didn't fix everything for everyone.

All-day event alerts as well as timed are now working.

The upgrade took some time but went smooth. I did not have the lowercase "edge" problem. I did have to re-activate my BES service with my hosted BES.

After restoring the databases, I did find that I had a few emails that would not delete from the 8300. Did a search around this wonderful board and found a solution that worked for me. I backed up the current message database, then simply restored it. Seems there's a "now and then" glitch when upgrading the OS and restoring databases. Once I restored, I was able to delete the pesky emails.

I'm not sure why, given the fact the RIM has obviously released an upgrade to vendors, why one vendor (Optus) releases it while AT&T is still holding onto it. Testing? Or is AT&T too busy with that new phone that came out yesterday? I forget what it's called.

Glad the update worked for you. You *should* be able to have your BIS CICAL service book loaded and still have everything work. I feel for those that had these calendar issues as my wife and I live and die by syncing our calendars (how would we keep up with the kids?)

As far as why other carriers haven't released....that's just up to them. To me, the calendar issue would be enough to throw out any version that supposedly fixes that problem but, yeah, they probably have months of testing to do first.

do you have a copy of the backup of your BB from before you loaded the device with the new OS?? if you do you can recover your lost appt from that (assuming that the appts were on there when you backed up) if not, then you might have lost all those appts. Sorry

Can't download apps without the BB Browser. Opera Mini must invoke the browser on a BB for you to be able to download programs.

I found another option that I had not noticed in earlier software. In Media Options, "Volume Boost" can be On of Off:

Name:	pic0.jpg
Views:	85
Size:	64.0 KB
ID:	8525

When this feature is turned on, the user will be prompted to accept a disclaimer:

Name:	pic2.jpg
Views:	78
Size:	78.2 KB
ID:	8526

More information is available here.

I installed this on my 8300 (which had previous upgrades as well), and everything looks like it is working ok at last.. calendar notices pop so far.

Well, ran into problems!! The OS install went on OK, but when I tried to remove the PTT and unlock the themes, it gave me an "app error 200" in 3 different ocassions, and for T-mo there's still no browser. Going back to O2 for now.....

A friend of mine and I have run into this same problem. Were you able to resolve it without downgrading?

I've got EDGE on my associate's Curve, but it's still not showing the browsers, no browser service books. I'm about to try a handheld wipe/re-register.
