too bad it uses your cell phone minutes when someone calls your skype number. Rim needs to give up the code so VOIP can be used on the Blackberries better.

Our developers will investigate this situation.
Hope battery consumption could be improved in next versions.

Let's clarify this situation.
Skype calls are redirected as incoming to your Blackberry. If you pay or not for incoming calls, it depends on tariff policy of your mobile provider.

Skype protocol is not public, so it is not possible for 3rd party applications to transfer voice for free as Skype native client does. So there is a choice between VOIP and SkypeOut for voice transfer.
IM+ for Skype Software uses SkypeOut to transfer voice data over this wireless network, which ends up being rather cost-efficient if compared to Voice over IP (VoIP). With VoIP the GPRS charge would be much higher than the charge with SkypeOut.
Furthermore, the call quality is better when you use SkypeOut rather than VoIP.
So, overall, VoIP would generate much traffic and would not guarantee good call quality, whereas communications through SkypeOut generates little GPRS traffic and provides a quality conversation.

Anyone got it to work on cingular? I have an 8800 and only the IM works, the autoconfig wont work. Sent to support a few days ago but haven't heard anything. My guess is there will be no response until after the 7 day trial. The support is horrible

You need to enable TCP/IP on your Blackberry in order to use IM+ for Skype Software.
Go to Options -> Advanced Options ->TCP (on other models could be Options -> TCP or Tools -> TCP)
You settings should be as following:
APN: wap.cingular
Username: [email address]
Password: CINGULAR1

NOTE: The APN above MUST be lowercase and the Username and Password
above MUST be in ALL CAPS.

Then please restart IM+ for Skype Software, start Autoconfigurator and wait until it finishes.

You can prohibit this.

In IM+ for Skype Software please go to Settings / Incoming Message Notification and uncheck "Allow messages from non Contact list users".

I had to give up using im+ as it drained my battery in 1/2 a day when it normally lasts 3 days. I was using im+ for LCS. I don't even go near the skype version.

I'm using Jivetalk now...no skype, but works nice and doesn't drain my battery at all.

Also, I've sent many emails to shape services for support and they never respond.
