FWIW I checked mine before I did the OS update and it already said I was running 4.6.1.83, but I did it anyway and I haven't missed a text yet. I did the update last monday 1-12-09 and it's been smooth sailing...except now I have a weird problem with calls going to speakerphone since the update...

Update, a battery pull and restore fixed the speakerphone issue. My phone is now operating at 100%!

Default Update Available today old: 4.6.1.83 New: 4.6.1.112

New update today. From old application version 4.6.1.83 to 4.6.1.112. Took about 20 minutes to download using the desktop manager. Noticed a couple new folders.

Default *** Urgent Fyi Notice ***

One of our users used the BB desktop software to try and do an update tonight around 2000HRS. The desktop software attempted to push data to the device but failed and the BB will not BOOT.

SprintNEXTEL Rep advised they are aware of the issue and that BB's are failing as a result of the update. SprintNextel is recommending not to do any updates until further notice and until they can determine why a large number are BB's are basically becoming paper weights. How this notice will take place is yet to be seen.

I am in the public safety sector so this affects a great deal of devices and jeopardizes communications. I have sent out a department wide email and MMS's advising our users NOT TO DO ANY UPDATES.

I have read some posts today indicating a successful update. Please advise how you did the update step by step and what method the update arrived; by desktop application or pushed to the phone.

Thanks.

Bill

Connected BB to PC and opened Desktop manager. Manager automatically looked for "update" and advised one was available. Clicked on update and watched for 20 plus minutes while the phone and PC did its thing. After waiting, Desktop manager stated update successful.

Interesting... it worked for ya..

I did speak to our user and he mentioned that ROXIO CD BURNER failed to work after the initial install of the software. The SPRINT rep advised to uninstall and re-install the BB Desktop Software. The user then connected the 8350i to the desktop, prompted for an update, and he allowed it...

Now I am curious if the ROXIO conflict is the common denominator.

Wayne, do you have ROXIO on your desktop [which may rule out ROXIO]?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes, I have ROXIO installed on my desktop. Although I don't know if it matters but I got Roxio when I purchased my i870 when that phone launched several years ago. The Roxio program came on the disc that was included with the phone. I still use the Roxio program.

I also did the update the same way as D_Wayne and had no problems ... I am not sure how long it took but it did definitely take at least 20-30 min for the update to complete. The phone works great xxx8230; no problems with sms messages and they also fixed the problem with the Bluetooth and the voice dialing, and emails that are sent in HTML format actually will now show the pictures and emails correctly.

Default Sprint Suggests Downgrading O/S

Hello all...

I have been advised that Blackberry has removed the update from their servers and has deactivated the update status indicating a need for an update.

Sprint is suggesting downgrading to the previous device software using the Desktop Manager.

It's a headache for me and took out the memory of one device completely making it a paperweight. I have been made whole with a new unit but it is frustrating.

Good luck.

I updated last week too! So far it works much better and removing it just sounds too confusing so I'll wait and hope it doesn't give me any problems.

Started to panic this morning! I set the phone to go off from midnight til 6:00 AM and it always comes back on. Last night I wasn't so lucky! The phone went off at midnight like it was supposed to but when I got up this morning at 6:30 the phone was STILL off. Pushing the power button still didn't turn it on so I took the battery out and put it back in and it STILL stayed off! I had to take the battery out 3 times before it finally came back on. I really hope that wasn't caused by the update because having a phone that won't power on is NOT an option! I think I'm gonna call Sprint about that one today!

And I wanted to add that the battery was fully charged since I put it on the charger overnight every night while it's off!

Hey B, when you pulled the battery did you leave it out for a minute or put it right back in. when i first got my phone and i was setting it up the tech on the phone told me when i do a battery pull to wait about 1 minute before i put it back in or it may not do a full re-boot. but either way when you call sprint let us know what happened.
P.S. i still did not find out a fix for the DC in the messages folder yet i don't think there is a way with the new software update. but i did not give up i'm still trying.
