Software For BlackBerry® Curve (TM) 8310 smartphone BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.108 (EastAsia)

Package Version: 4.5.0.108
Consisting of:
  • Applications: 4.5.0.81
  • Software Platform: 2.7.0.78
  • File name: 8310EastAsia_PBr4.5.0_rel108_PL2.7.0.78_A4.5.0.81_ Voda_Australia.exe
  • File size: 72.6MB
Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.
Download here: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...19656875EE557C

Instructions for installing on ANY carrier's 8310:

1. Make sure you have Desktop Manager 4.2 SP2 or higher installed.
BlackBerry - Desktop Software - BlackBerry Desktop Software at BlackBerry.com
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.
The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Wow this didn't take very long to go from a leaked beta to an official release.

Anyone test it out yet?

Any reason not to go ahead and install it (I am on 4.5.0.69) - besides the fact that my device is stable ? LOL..

Thanks!

I have been running this release for about a month, and it is stable. There were no great differences in the earlier release I had.

One thing that always happens when I perform an upgrade is that DM never recognizes Sheets to Go (from the Docs to Go suite) as a valid module and erases it. So after every upgrade I have to go to Dataviz and re-download. Is there anyway around this or is this pretty much unavoidable after an upgrade??

Ah! But there is an easy fix for that in upgrading.

After installing the new OS, and before performing the upgrade, delete the "DocumentsToGo.alx" file from the OS install folder, located at
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\**your OS name here

Then, the upgrade process will restore the DocumentsToGo on your device backup it makes during the install.

Thanks for the info!

Now if only there were a way to avoid the endless rebooting cycles when reading the media card after every update...

I installed 4.5.0.69 earlier this week and when I tried to install today's 4.5.0.81 update it tells me that the software I have on my device is newer than what I have installed on my PC.

Any ideas?

Did you follow the complete directions... deleting the vendor.xml file after the OS installation?

Thanks. I knew about that tutorial. It's just a bit of a pain having to reformat the card after every upgrade.

Silly question but I would like to know.

You shouldn't have to reinstall the any third party themes separately, the upgrade and restore should do just that.

I finally took the plunge and updated from 4.2. Everything is looking fine so far!

One question- why did I not have my third-party apps restored afterwards?

I ran restore from my backup taken prior to the upgrade and got all contacts, mail and settings, but no third-party apps...

There is a check box to restore, maybe you overlooked that? I thought it was checked by default.

And it should restore third party apps also... same, another checkbox.

is the purpose of the removal of the vendor.xml file to get around the fact that AT&T (in my case) has not approved this upgrade yet. i went to the blackberry ugrade site for 4.5 and entered my pin and it says the upgrade is not available for my carrier.

What are the risks associated with installing the device software upgrade, removing the vendor.xml file when the carrier has not authorized the upgrade.

Just a little paranoid I guess. I have downloaded the 4.5 OS but not yet installed it.

Thanks,
