Default 8100 Bricked with Flashing Red LED

Please Login to Remove!

I put my ATT Blackberry Pearl on the charger. The next morning there was a flashing red LED (about 3 seconds on, three seconds off), and the unit wouldn't turn on. I've reloaded ATT's version of the OS-- DM reported successfully-- but once the program finished, the Pearl just went back to the flashing red LED routine again. (During the relaod, the keyboard and screen actually lit and the screen indicated that files were uploading from the computer). Tried JL_Cmdr to wipe or reset to factory, but no go; I'm dubious it connected, because I logged no info on deviceinfo, and got an "unable to open port" message on eventlog.

Also bought and charged a new battery. No change.

Can anyone help, or should I just toss the Blackberry?

No such luck. It fails during the "wait for device initialization" phase-- following erasure, the red LED starts flashing again, and when the LED is off, it apparently disconnects the port, opening it again when it turns red. This on again, off again connection isn't good enough for reinstallation, and eventually an "unable to reconnect to the device during a multi-stage load operation" error message appears. Actually, on one occasion, I was able to do an OS reinstall, but at the end of the reinstall, I was back where I started with the brick with the flashing red eye instead of the ATT logo followed by a screen of icons.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 9000 4.6.0.67)

When it does connect does it show the proper PIN number or does it show all F's?

Well, I took another shot at reloading the OS, and was successful, after a fashion. If I now install a very weak battery, and plug the phone into my computer, I *sometimes* get the hourglass instead of the flashing red LED. Eventually, I will get the ATT logo, followed by a successful security test, followed by the setup menu. However, if I select and click on any of the menu items, I'm back to the flashing red LED again. The keyboard's also dead when the setup menu is up. Anybody have any ideas for this new set of symptoms?

Dry as a bone. Good thought, though.
