Thumbs down Does Rim acknowledge there are memory leaks?

Please Login to Remove!

I mean really. Every 4.2 os device has this problem. Not literally, but out of every batch of whatever device that has OS 4.2 loaded there is a memory leak problem.

Today I woke up to 16.5 mb at 800am, I went to go see American Gangster at 8:30, (sold out by the way) and it was down to 6mb... 10 mb lost..... Are you kidding, power cycle the phone and sure enough back to 16.7mb. If I dont check my 8320 status before I go to bed, I know I will lose important emails or call logs... I know its a redundant thread but I have 3 curves all of them suffering from a memory leak problem. I only have 4 apps and deleted that stupid sample video. Its already hard enough that the available memory is only 52mb excluding the loaded os instead of 64 like he pearl........

I haven't been having as much problem with the 8320 as I did with the Pearl. I start out with about 20Mb free and it gets down to around 16 and hovers there. Are you sure it's not a 3rd party app not releasing memory properly? I got rid of BBWeather because it seemed to be a culprit.

That being said, I agree with you. RIM hasn't addressed bugs in the OS's very well in the last year. I've been somewhat disappointed in their OS releases. Bluetooth GPS has been a problem since 4.2.1 was introduced and it hasn't been fixed in any release of 4.2.1 or 4.2.2. And from what I've heard from sources close to RIM on it is that they don't really acknowledge a problem with the BT GPS issue. Memory leaks have plagued these devices since last September and they still go on today. It seems to me they could do a little better job.

Oddly I never had the problem with my Pearl and I had much more apps. I have infospace, gmail, viigo and opera mini on my 8320..... Same ones I had on my pearl all re downloaded and not copied. I am so glad I am meticulous about things because I wouldn't have found out til it was too late..... I am hoping 4.3 does something, but someone on another forums has said the memory leaks are present in the 4.3 os... :( I have yet to understand why I am only getting 52mb of memory minus whats loaded on the phone vs the Pearl 64 minus whats koaded on the phone.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8700g: BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Someone here wrote that the 52MB represents the available memory for the device. It just doesn't show what is reserved for the OS. I don't know if that is true, though.

But I haven't had a leak issue at all. I have the Facebook app, JiveTalk, CryptMagic, ToDoMatrix and Viigo installed, along with the RB Zen theme, and the lowest I have ever gone down to is 24MB. And that was with over 1000 e-mails and 400 text messages. So I guess I am fortunate with my 8320. And I rarely have to reboot the device. Right now I have 25MB free.

Not accurate at all. The Pearl has a OS loaded and it shows total file memory is 64 mb and not 61 or 55 etc.....

I have had the pearl, the 8800, and now the 8320.

i have used the globalstat mini bluetooth gps puck without issue.

I turn it on, wait two seconds then open the app, like google maps, blackberry maps or amazegps and I am on my way.

I check my alt e-a-c-e twice a day and have not noticed a memory change substantial.

I am betting it is a third party app that is the problem.

That's true. I wasn't sure if that was accurate. I was just saying that this other person said that he thought the Curve was showing just the memory AVAILABLE that was NOT being used by the OS. On the older models even though it SHOWED the full amount on the device, there was still some of that 64MB that was unusable. I would somewhat agree with this theory just because in all the system specifications for the curve it does say that it has 64MB of memory. So I do think that it has that amount.

Another thing I do prior to loading the OS is I remove all those pre-loaded pictures that come with it. There was a thread on here that showed how to remove certain files for the Pearl, and I have been able to do it with my previous 8700g and now the 8320. I will have to search for the of the .cod file that I delete in the Java folder prior to wiping and installing the OS.

For the people complaining about the memory issue. ive been victim to this too. Then while holding the ALT key type L G L G then let go of the ALt key. youll go to to the Event Log. Clear all logs then toggle all your logging to OFF. No memory leaks to ZERO in 2 weeks.
